Anything anything ANYTHING looks better than their normal Black Hearse paint scheme.

…be nice if they painted alot more of their engines like these.

I wouldnnt be too quick to judge ol' Buffet. It seems all the major railroads are in a PR campaign. The Heritage paint schemes started by UP have been sucessful in promoting the railroad. BNSF might just surprise you.
Jake, I would love to be proven wrong, nothing would make me happier on this subject.

I’m not holding my breath.

Vic, They just finished up the original NS… Ralph

Neat how they got the sky to match their color scheme.

OMG!!!

Does anyone know if these units are running with a slightly different sound? BNSF runs about a mile north of us and earlier this week I heard an engine running with a different sound.

Left me wondering what it was.

Well, the Lehigh Valley had a lot of Alcos, so they might have just put a wrench in a couple cylinders…

Ye Gods why dont they go back to that scheme, its so much better!

Probably because of the paint scheme used by BNSF ;) Ralph

Geez railfanning today is sooo boring. You can literally count the majors on one hand and they are using essentially the same prime movers everywhere. Yes, squint your eyes and a D-9 looks just like an SD. :stuck_out_tongue:

That’s why you hunt down the short lines  Ralph Even the majors still have a few interesting locomotives out there

Sadly NS is cutting down the high hoods on the ex Southern units.

Unfortunately here in SoCal there are not many of those

NS is replacing the cabs, when they rebuild the units. They call it an “Admiral Cab”. Although we railfans like the high hoods, the engineers hate them. Here is one of the rebuilds done at Altoona. I took the picture this Winter in SC. This was not a high hood GP38. Ralph

Lance Meyers did a whole webpage on the Admiral cab if your interested: http://www.altoonaworks.info/rebuilds/admiralcab.html

Thanks Jon,
Very interesting.

723 does not have the Admiral cab. I had a picture of it at Altoona before the rebuild somewhere, but can’t find it.
