Newquida - a "true" LGB knock-off?

I am always loath to defend HJ, but guys get real! These molds are not the original LGB molds. They are knock-offs, plain and simple. More power to them and this is from the reddest of the brigadier’s.

I’ve just been lurking since I’m pretty busy with four foster children ages four through ten.

Ric,

What you see is what you get.

There was some extra “info” on/in some boxes, has to wait 'til I get to the shop and check.

Everyone seems to forget that “knock-offs” are how both Aristocraft and USA trains got their starts in the hobby.

This is the link to the Hammond website, basically the only place in the world to purchase them. An English company publicises that they sell the product line but are always out of stock. Common sense has it that no further items will be offered. If one looks at the coach then the main difference is that it uses the roof moulding from the earlier scribed wood body tooling (Saschen model) and not the more correct Rugen smooth roof moulding. Was this a rouse to circumvent copyright infringement, or simply these were the parts the ‘toolmakers’ had on hand?

The Newq items are obviously from aftermarket retooling. The only ‘infringement’ that I see is copying the LICE train as this is an idea formulated inside Lehmann and produced by Piko. Bachmann claim they have no connection with the Heritage/Buddy L/Keystone items and there are subtle differences between the Bachmann Big Hauler and the ‘clone’ range. Rumour has it that workers were supposedly working after hours on the Bachmann product line and producing the clones. How one explains the difference in the products is beyond me as there are many differences. The Heritage range mogul loco chassis was actually based on the LGB mogul block. Where were the venters when the clone was released years ago? They most likely laughed that one off, but took notice when the Newq’s arrived as they looked a little close for comfort.

Newq’s are here to stay, well at least until current stock is sold, which will take a while as demand seems to have dwindled in the last year. I believe many thought they were getting a bargain, purchased the items and then realised they were not the same quality as the original, sort of a pig’s ear from a silk purse.

Victor.

I return to what I said on page # 1 of this thread.

What better way could there be to "destroy" an old, long etsablished brand name, than to bring out a range el cheapo knock off copies.

The clamouring public don’t give a fig as long as they can get their “fixes” at the lowest possible cost.

You might just about have it correct. Although you are a bit more altruistic than others might be.
