Newqida value?

I have several examples of these coaches and with a few minor alterations, they are excellent value when purchased at correct ‘retail’ prices. However, this listing made me cringe. An original German made version may be had for around $180 upwards. I feared that many may have been mislead when this product was released. The bidder could have purchased three of this coach from the original retail dealer rather than through an eBay listing. ‘Let the buyer beware’.

Well Tim, there’s no way to prevent foolish people from spending their money foolishly. OTOH since ignorance is bliss, chances are they sleep well.

Hans is probably very happy !

I’ve to his store and although there are a lot of goodies, the prices are not for the faint of heart for the most part.

Cheers, TOF

Darryl,

Funny you should mention that! Could that be the reason I haven’t bought as much as a screw from his place?  (NOTE: “screw” is open for interpretation!)

Over here we bought three of the ‘very similar to ahem’ passenger cars for the equivalent of US$54.

Put proper wheels on the, slap a coat of the right colour on 'em, and it takes a VERY close eye-trumpet to discern the difference.

They’ll soon be running around my little track looking just like the ex-MAV cars on the Welshpool & Llanfair Rwy, having cost us a little under one-tenth of the price of the other items.

It sure as he*ll don’t keep me awake nights, having spent upwards of $20K on the other stuff since 1968…

here in paraguay the newqida passengercars are sold for $50 US and the boxcars for $25 US in a toy shop.

and they got one big advantage: they are the only G-scale articles avayable!

Any port in a storm Korm!

I’m amazed that Hans would try to screw someone with a listing like that!
There goes my trust with Gold Coast Station.
He doesn’t even have the guts to name the brand.

Some folks just got to have at any price. Later RJD

John,
in so far as naming the brand, I have been following searches on eBay for sometime and to date, the only returns have been a couple of radio control boats. Another seller is listing Newqida, but like Hans is not naming the company that manufactures them. I believe that there is possibly a problem in listing the manufacturer’s name should those who object to the product, complain to eBay regarding their ‘counterfeit’ policy.

Hans has listed several of these coaches with listing price starting around $65.00. Current retail on the item is $39.99 from Salt Lake City. I was happy to pay $34.99, but somehow the price increase has put me off the product line. My posting was to do with bidders who would push up the price of an item well above retail and is not a criticism of Hans. I have always found him to be very accomodating in the past (although sometimes getting emails through to him is a problem due their spam blocker programme).

I think Hans may be getting his supply direct from Hammond, so by listing them with a $65 starting bid maybe he’s just trying to recoop his own cost?

Same unit Hans is selling

Its Ebay. you pay what you think it is worth to you.
Good for Hans in getting as much as he can for a Item.

How’s come they don’t bid crazy when I have something to sell?

IF you don’t do research on an item before you bid, then you are a fool and deserve to get screwed.

You can do all the research you want on an item Jerry, and still get screwed. The real point of the Evil Bay is how honest is the seller, and how much will he disclose to you on an item. Just found out you have 45 days to return or dispute an item if it is not what you paid for or the seller held back or didn't disclose everything in his site. True you can check feedback, but even that doesn't tell the WHOLE truth. I had a seller completely scam me, and paypal wouldn't back me up on it. Ebay told me they were keeping an eye on him, and last time I looked he had 12-15 sales under his belt with a few more less serious complaints. Lets face it they all want their money however they can get it and are not going to come down on any seller or buyer unless something really serious happens or it is of a every time nature or consistently bad or scammy nature!! Just had another seller with several sales, and 100% feedback, and the item had some real problems not disclosed, and when I confronted the seller about it I got the " Well it was alright when it left here, you or the postal system must have done something to cause that!") Oh yeah they opened up the pkg and put a big sticker over a blemish on the item yeah right!" and the wiring inside was all messed up and a control on the item did not work at all and was broken internally!! Not a train item, but Noel the wiring guru, came to my rescue AGAIN and did a spectacular re-wire of the item and now is right!! Regal

Looking over the listing, not sure where anyone thinks that this is not a truthfull listing? Says it is not LGB, shows the box, and there are others listed like it on eBay for less. The stuff really has no “brand” other than “Train”. Newqida are listed on the box as the maker, but not a brand.

eBay is a strange place, I have sold valuable dealer only car repair tools for nothing, and used/worn factory repair manuals for much higher than the new ones were selling for.

For the past 2 years I have watched for stainless steel aristocraft track. Not once have I seen anything sell for less than 5% below current retail and almost every time it has sold for well above currently available internet retail pricing! It amazes me how often people will pay more for an item than they can buy for new.

I look at Ebay UK, have done so for a year or more, but have never bought or sold there.

There is, at present a USED Aristo L’ill Critter on UK Ebay. The seller says that they are worth £400 new. That is a gross misrepresentation and lie. New - and with a FREE caboose - they can be bought from UK dealers for around £128 - £130. If a dealer (in the UK) misrepresented in this manner he could be prosecuted. But it seems that on ‘auction sites’ “anything goes”.

Personally I have no more trust in auction sites than I have in a bookies. lol

OK folks I was at Hans yesterday to pick up a powerpack, he sells them there for the same $65 starting price, and to the best of my knowlegde he got them from Hammond there is no duplicity as far as I’m concerned, BTW the NewQ box is shown in the listing and its listed as “similar” to LGB, not as LGB, so I dont see where the issue is. The $65 is to recoup his initial investment to get them from Hammond and maybe buy some more to restock whats sold and by putting on ebay is a faster way to clear them than by sitting on a shelf. If a bidder wants to know if its actuall LGB or not all they have to do is “Ask a Question” of the seller, shee-oot I do that all the time and get them as a seller myself so again theres no deception going on here. Ebay is a market place, and will bear whatever the buyer is willing to spend. So good for Hans if he makes a few bucks.
