Large Scale Central

New station

Ken, when you get it all completed, if it’s a little too big for the spot you want it in, let me know, i do believe i can find a place for it, out here… hehehe

Geez, you guys are so helpful…

Ken,
How can I turn you on to 3M plastic and emblem adhesive? Try it you will like it!
Plus if you use it in a sealed small area “it will make you feel good”

That’s coming along nicely Ken

Well, I guess if I ever see it when I'm roaming the store, I'll pick some up and give it a try.

“Goop” does a pretty good job of clearing out the sinuses even with the garage door open…

Got all the siding done on the first floor level yesterday and startin on the second floor now.

Gotta figger something out to use as a station platform.

When I was a kid, I wanted to change my N gauge stuff to KayDee couplers, but my loco had a funny coupler mounting. Ralph at the hobby shop tried the newfangled “Goop” to stick the kaydee box to the bottom of the loco. The results were rather amusing. Think of eating a pizza fresh out of the oven. We put the old coupler back on.

Ken, The station is going to be real sharp when done…you can’t beat the RGS for inspiration!!! Dave

Thanx, Dave. I may in the future try the Rico or Ridgeway depot. They both have a tower on the front. After a short hiatus waiting for pieces/parts, managed to knock a roof together and put some trim on it:

Was waiting on an order for angled styrene for the trim. Now I can work on the PP wood shake shingles for the roof.

There’s still a bit of trim work to be done on the main station building, but the basics are done.

Ken, that’s taking shape, rather nicely…

More progress…starting to look like somethin…

Found some latex paint on the shelf that closely matches the color of the upper part of the station. May have to mix up a lighter shade of brown for the lower part.

Ken,
You make your bracketry and follow the simple paint code (body, trim, accent)
You’ll be driving the street sweeper up Burbon St. with a smile on your face you couldn’t remove with a jackhammer daddy!
HIccup…somebody is into the tea this evening…ME?
I did notice the slight changes from the prototype and it’s totally bang’in nice work!

Got a coat of paint on the front walls. Found out at Lowe’s that they’ll mix up a half pint of paint called a 'Sample" for $3.98. I had a post card with a picture of the station on it and matched up the colors somewhat to 2 paint chips and had the guy mix up 2 half pints for me. The brown appears a bit darker, but the yellow was a good match.

Still have the back and one side left to paint and do somethin with the freight shed roof, But it’s starting to look like somethin…

Ken, that station came out beautifully… nice work…

The station looks great.
Thanks for the “tip” on the paint. I’ll be heading to Lowes to purchase some samples.
I need a yellow about the color of the background Bob uses here on the posts.
Ralph

Wow. Very nice. And the paint thing is golden. Too bad Lowes is a bit further away, but I sure like that idea.

I haven’t checked but I would think that Home Depot or any of the local hardware stores or paint stores would do the same thing. When we were looking for a stain for the back deck, it was hard finding anything that didn’t have to be mixed. They offer so many different shades of colors anymore it would be impossible to carry any but the basic colors. What I got was the Olympic Premium brand.
Most of those places have racks and racks of paint chip colors so finding a shade you can use should be relatively easy. If most people are like my wife, she usually picks out about 10 different colors and ponders over which one she likes the most. The “sample” thing probably caters to those types of people who don’t want to buy a whole gallon if they’re not sure if that’s the color they want.

I had seen an advertisement of that “sampler”. Sure beats the price of a small jar of paint at the hobby shop. I have used exterior flat latex on all the buildings and very happy with the results. With the computer generated color matching equipment at most hardware and lumber companies, you can even take in a piece of plastic and ask “can you match this?” and get good results.

Just a question for those of you that have used latex housepaint on outdoor structures…does it hold up well on plastics in the weather? I figure it’d do pretty well on wood.

The depot is superbo Ken. A really nice bash. Bring it with you the next time you’re out this way and we’ll see how it fits on the POC.

I’ve used various brands of latex house paint on other buildings made with Precision products stuff. Holds up well, though darker colors have faded over the years, but that just adds to the character.

I’ll do that Richard. (wonder if it’ll fit in the overhead compartment?)

Ken… did you spray the building or use a brush.

I have found those samples to be very helpful, from time to time

You do great work.
