Large Scale Central

New station

Well, since the RR got larger I figgered I might need some buildings for it. I had a CMS freight shed sittin around That I had replaced with an Aristo freight shed.

Needing a new station on the new part of the layout, I had a picture of the original station that sits in Delores Co. and noticed that freight shed end of that station was close in size to the CMS one I had. Sooooooooooooooo…

All I’d really need to build would be the square 2 story station end of the building to make it look credible.

Ken what are you using to build the addition on to that??? And where do you buy it??? also the windows and such!!! Thanks ahead of time The Regal

Looks great Ken. What are you using to glue the PP windows (and siding?) onto the plexi?

Jerry, the windows are Precision Products.

Jerry, the clear panels are acrylic that I bought at Lowe’s.

The windows and siding are Precision Products plastic veneer sheets. They run from $8-$12 a piece. Some I got from RR Station and some I ordered directly from Precision Products.

Precision Products was recently sold so some places that carry it may not yet be able to get new stock.

Brian, I’ve been using Goop. I usually spread it on with a coffee stirrer since the opening in the tube is so big.

Wow,
Who lit a fire under your behind
Do they make a pill for that ?
It’s bad enough when the young guys make me feel like I’m moving in slow motion

Looking good, Ken. I think the acrylic is becoming one of my favorite materials.

Nice looking station… I’ve been using the acrylic to re-enforce the colorado models siding, along with making the window glass… It’s also gooped together…

Ken,

Good plan. That’s going to be a great looking depot!

Nice!

“Goop” seems to be a good product, all the way around. I like your custom/kitbash/one off design.

Goop works well when you can clamp the parts. I've had a few failures when the parts couldn't be clamped.

Ken,
The station will simulate the look of the prototype nicely.

Got all the second story windows on yesterday and some wood trim around the outside. From the looks of it, we may be getting some rain today, so maybe I can start on the siding. I use a lot of clamps when I glue stuff together. Must be a hold-over habit from woodworking days…

Measured the spot yesterday where I plan to place it and looks like it’ll be a good fit.

That is really looking good–what will you use for siding?

It's the 6" lap siding veneer by Precision Products.

Impressive structure Ken. How do you like those precision(?) windows?

They’re a bit clunky looking and large, but when it’s all together it doesn’t look bad. And it sure beats building them myself.

Further update: Here’s some pix with some of the siding on…

Ken, that’s starting to look like a passenger station…
