Large Scale Central

New Site Software (was: Sneak peek)

The freight shed images should carry over correctly. I have written a plugin to keep these images in the correct path.

f nothing else, I do have an archive of all the images and can figure out where they belong after the changeover.

I need to figure out the advertiser and forum sponsors stuff, then see if I can carry over private messages. very close.

I copied all of my pictures from both the Freight Shed and my Album, so I guess I’m ready for anything. Hopefully the new format will be more friendly to uploading pictures directly from a smartphone. Thats the almost exclusive way things are being documented today.

It looks like its incredibly easy to post pictures. I’ve posted directly from my phone, dragged images into the composer, posted links, copied and pasted an image, it all seems to work.

EDIT: The Discourse group has a demo site set up where you can play. I just made this thread with images.

They say its reset every night, so YMMV

Yes, they scrubbed the database overnight, so that thread is gone. But it is very easy to post pictures from wherever you are.

I just want to make sure I understand this software “changeover”…

You say you believe the changeover should be OKAY if we do nothing. Does that mean the Freight Sheds will come over along with the forum software and the photos will stay connected to their respective posts?

OR are we supposed to copy our posts and all photos related to these posts, “just in case”?

I actually CAN blame you for some issues with the new software. It has a “post quality” algorithm that rejects all your nonsense all-smiley posts and the like and tosses them out.

Couldn’t stop laughing on this posting BD. Did you special order this feature or was it just a hidden bonus deal?(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

It was unexpected. As I was testing importing the forums, it kept throwing up an error, “Body seems unclear, is it a complete sentence?” I had to dig to figure out exactly what was going on. There is a minimum length of a post, the majority of a post can’t be punctuation, and it has to ‘look’ like a full sentence.

So a post with five smileys in it fails.

Will the filter also manage this?

Sorry Rooster, just had to chime in, haha!

I have a complete download of all the freight shed files. I have built a “plugin” for the new software that places those images in the same path as they are now. So they should “just work”, but if they dont, I will still have the files and can figure out the issue as we move forward.

I also have narrowed down the chat engine to two packages, Rumblechat and DeadSimpleChat. They both work approximately the same way, Rumblechat is a bit more secure from hacking, and is also a bit cheaper.

Stay tuned.

Thank you for the clarification Bob.

Here’s a good example - will the new software do better with the duplicate posts?

Attempt to delete my duplicate post that questioned about duplicate posts.  (Irony anyone? )

I suspect that there’s NO easy way to deal with the rooster, but thankfully the internet is full of memes.

It does have some sort of “this post seems a duplicate of this other post” that I’ve triggered occasionally testing. We‘ll see how sensitive is.

In other progress, I will be testing the email integration in the next couple of days. You shouldn’t get any emails, but if you get an odd notification from LSC, it’s me testing.

I had to go look it up. From a thread on duplicate posts, from one of the founders:

“Since the beginning of Discourse, you can’t post an identical reply to the same topic – this is mostly for accidental multiple submit button press mistakes. “

Email testing looks ok. It will take a couple hours after the changeover to be working correctly, but its looking good.

Next is setting up the advertisers.

Im confident that sometime this weekend will be the changeover. I will try and do as much as I can overnight for minimum disruption. Ill get an better idea of exact date/time in the next couple days.

Security certificates is also something I need to figure out. That may delay things.

I’ve always wondered if security certificates really do ANYTHING? (Well, other than delay things…(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif))

Anyway, please keep up the GREAT work! A LOT of US REALLY appreciate what you do!

I second Bruce’s comment. Thank you.
