New MTH catalog coming

Well, It finally looks like it’s getting closer!

Yeah, the protosound III system will be a boon in my opinion, having the ability to work on standard DCC layouts.

keep your fingers crossed!

Greg

I really like the idea of an A-A F-7 set. Had this been available 10-15 years ago it might have pushed me to 1:32!

I think MTH has wonderful models but sadly the 1:32 market is too limited for what I want. Then again, there is that Tri-plex…

Looks like they’re selling the NS F7 as a single unit now.

It’s a listing for a preorder in the new catalog.

Either that’s a huge engine or MTH has the wrong dimensions listed!
Unit Measures:39" x 3 3/4" x 5 1/4"

Yeah, looks like they messed up the description totally. It calls it the set of. I think they switched it to a single engine and left the description for the pair?

Thats what I was thinking also.

they put back the NS set in the listing and here comes some more:

there’s a new listing for more GEs also.

There’s passenger sets to match the NS, along with a couple more. The VO1000 have new paint schemes.

Looks like all engines may have PS3.

Waiting to see if the new diesel shows up and maybe a steamer??

4 more days…

Hmmm, Amtrak, and the paint looks prototypical!

Now that’s 3 I have to buy. Rats. BNSF, CSX, and now Amtrak?

I already have (2) VO1000 engines so I don’t really need more of them, but I would like to add a Dash & F7 to my collection. Hopefully they run as nice as the VO1000’s!

Can anybody 'splain to me why they chose a Dash-8? I mean, really!

It’s the Genius Factor.

I don’t have any inside info or even a good guess(*). I bought my fair share of them over the years. I thought they would release many more models and can only guess that with all the complaints, they left for higher sales overseas? (other scales).

Now that they are trying G scale again with engines that run on just about every current I can think of, I can only hope that it will be a bigger success and I’ll get more modern stuff. Their G scale steamers like the big boy and Challenger, etc., (I would think) sold stronger and will sell strong again. Seems like there’s many more guys running steam?

So I have to ask, what model would you want??

  • Ok, I’ll try one:
USA and then AML released there models (or at least announced) of EMD diesels and we might have thought one of them would have made a more modern one by now?

Aristo made their sd45 and dash 9 and now is repainting the dash 9s for heritage schemes like USA did with their SD70MAC.

So what modern diesel should MTH have made? They released a decent amount of steam, PAs, F3 and F7s, VO1000s,… I bet no matter what model they made there would have been a reason for the hard core to bash them.
Too small right? I don’t agree. Just not around 1/20th to 1/30 scale and fluctuating like the rest. Maybe some other manufacturers will release some 1/10 scale models because bigger is better?

Anybody want to sell me their Accucraft Allegheny just because it’s too small?

Maybe it’s the “don’t make the same thing as the other guys?”

Aristo makes an FA

USAT makes an F3

LGB made an F7 (sort of, more like an F5)

MTH makes an F7

Aristo makes a Dash 9

MTH makes a Dash 8

Aristo makes an SD45

USAT makes an SD70 and SD 40

Aristo makes a GP40

USAT makes a GP38

Maybe…

Greg

I’m not really a fan of MTH, ever since Mike tried to run Lionel into the ground through the courts with his lawsuit.

If I had my 'Druthers, I’d like to see them give up their folly of 1:32 and get aboard with the rest of the world in 1:29, but that’s just me.

The locomotive I’d like from them would be a Connie based on GN 1147. I think it is much more elegant than the B&O version that Aristo chose, but that is just me.

A sister, # 1246, with a short Vandy Tender, was at Woodland Park in Seattle for a long time.

She is not doing so well, now.

For diseasals, I’d like to see the long awaited SD-9

Or, perhaps an ALCo C 425, in Spokane, Portland and Seattle colors, of course!

The credit line says the photographer is Richard Smith. Since the location is right, could this be our Richard Smith?

How’s that for a wish list?

The Dash-8 was just not very long is production to make much of a mark on RR history, was it?

For the two diseasals pictured, right click and select "View Image."

Well I hope they don’t replace a modern diesel with an old sewing machine!! But, that’s just me. I figure there are a lot more guys running older stuff… They have released a good lineup of steam for you!!

How about the NYC Hudson, Challenger, BigBoy, Daylight, GS4, more Hudsons , etc…

Joe, note that with the exception of the SD-9, the locomotives I suggested are all smallish. The ones that you have listed are all very large, and require large layouts.

You asked what I wanted, I told you. I like looking at large locomotives running on the Snake River Railroad, where there are 40 ft radius (yes, I said 40 ft RADIUS) curves. Those large locomotives look great, there. On my layout, not so much, and I have one of the larger layouts in square footage on this board.

If you have a layout that can support a Challenger or a Big Boy, great! Can I come play at your house?

Yes Steve, I will say you are welcome here anytime! I like you and your sense of humor even if you don’t like me!
What’s the USA GP high hood? I sold one a long time ago.
My Challengers are 1/32 and being so small they will run on modest sized layout’s. I wouldn’t attempt less than 10’ curves myself at track speed, as they overhang a bit. I think they’ll make it at 8’s but I’ve never tried myself. My current layout is 10’ and 11’ Aristo curved. My new curves are 15’ so they may look better down the road outdoors when it’s done.

A new smaller steamer was discussed by them just for guys like you that need or desire smaller engines. I’m not sure if they will be in this catalog. I would buy one just because I like the small ones as much as the biggest. However again, I prefer modern diesels.

Steve, I agree 100% with your choice of locos, especially the SD9 and that connie is much nicer than the B&O one hands down!

Greg

I don’t get something here. USA has a 1/29 GP7and 9 for U already?

http://www.usatrains.com/usatrainslocogp7.html

Why would you want MTH to change scales and make another existing loco? Is the USA inferior in some way? Why long awaited? I’m just not getting something obvious here?
