Hi Korm, nope I literally broke the main power wire. Probably while moving boxes around. Trouble is I can’t locate the other broken end, it’s under there somewhere
Well Korm you weren’t kidding, but LOL is wasn’t for what I posted about. That was relatively easy to reconnect. Where the FUBAR occurred was that after reconnecting the power lead I COULD NOT get the layout on the south side of the loop to work. just dead even when I applied jumpers to bypass the leads and the track selector switches. Argh! I had to vacuum up the ballast (I didn’t glue it down for just such an possibility) then proceeded to tear apart the track and reassembling it piece by piece making sure each section worked until I found the culprit. It turned out to be an LGB switch. After removal and investigation it turned out to be somehow the metal strips that connect power to the moving parts of the rails were touching, shorting the whole blasted thing!, three attempts were made to fix the problem but once I thought I had it solved I found it still had a dead points, argh! So I just tossed it and found a new one. So now its completely working again. Geez! Finally! BTW we’ve been dealing with insane hot weather the last 2 weeks (a truly insane 115 a few days ago) so progress was very slow. But at least its finally done, Pics soon.
Those “Ah Haaaaahhh” moments are Awesome especially when pissed off looking for the culprit! Then comes the feeling of “Oh Yeah Baby” I got this one! Then back to being pissed off saying " Why Didn’t I think about that to begin with" . I believe we have all been down that road before!
HAHAHA yep except in my case it was Ahh HAA I fixed…er…no I didn’t. Aah Ha that did it…umm…no it didnt. Hence me tossing the defective switch into the sideyard and going new. Remember the old saying. If it jams, force it, if it breaks well now you have to replace it anyways.
a clear case of happy RR-ing!
Updates: reworked this end of the upper line. Instead of a empty siding area it now sports a town destination. It’s a definite visual improvement. I’ve managed to reuse /rework existing buildings that I already had or just make simple flats. Also finished ballasting. That’s all for now.
Been far too long since I’ve posted any updates bii finally have something to share. I have been moving things around the garage to free up more layout area but the primary reason is to create storage shelves underneath. This is the first one. A 2 x 5 extension that will have 8 storage tracks. I will next be moving to extend things on the other side of the garage. The long long term goal is whatever can’t be stored on the various shelves will get sold off, and the extension on the other side will permanently host the pizza layout.
Work to date, all the cabinets have been moved and I am in process of cleaning them out, took a huge chache of old paint can for disposal, still two more trips for that to be completed. It doesn’t look like it but I’m making a lot of progress with the eventual expansion. Got a big box a G Gargraves track for the storage tracks. More pics hopefully by this weekend.
Nice work! I love that old gas range. Do you have plans to restore and use it?
I noted the gorgeous range myself and was actually looking at redoing one about that circa for my kitchen redo. However it was more than my brain could handle at the time. Not to mention my attention span is rather limited at times.
The 1920s stove came out of my grandparents house, it was stored away. I couldn’t let it go so kept it. Its not operational and would need a serious rebuild to work so I’m just using it for storage and as a TV stand. We have a big 1940s O’Keefe and Merritt stove in the kitchen that also came out of the same house. If you guys were closer I’d be willing to part with the 20s stove. I need to find it a new home. There used to be places here that restored old stoves but they seem to have been regulated out of business.
There is a place right near Bob’s in MA, located in an old train station, that restores them. He has hundreds of them scattered around the property.
Spent this week carting old cans of paint to Ace for disposal. Probably 20 cans, large to small. Only a couple are the types they won’t take so that’s a trip to the hazardous disposal site this weekend. Organizing is painfully slow but it is progressing. Hopefully this weekend I can clear the area next to the workbench to begin the expansion on that side, which eventually will nest the pizza layout. I will try to post a drawing this weekend.
Indeed. This from 2023.
He does amazing work.
Sorry for stove-jacking your thread Vic (but Rooster started it).
I’m looking forward to your drawing of the expansion!
Track down, above and below. I’m keeping everything simple now. I may focus on this side while I sort out the other side. There’s a ton of stuff that I need to go through. But this side is coming along nicely.
This is the masterplan, as I said theres a lot of stuff boxes and such that need going through before I move on the the area around the workbench.
Have you considered transitions into those curves ?
Transitions on a pizza-based layout… Calzones?
All of my stuff is small enough for that not to be an issue.
