Shad don’t let some of the &%#&& chase you out.

After years of running a forum, I’m sure Shad is plenty thick skinned to tough it out if he had a reason to.
As he said, he’s into HO now

I love it!

Once a month we operate on a very, very large HO layout.

New guy shows up and asks me: “What do you model?” “Swiss in the garden” “Wow that is much bigger” “Yeah, this here is almost like electric mice” with a wink and a large grin on my face.

Not everyone will get the joke, but my new buddy did. It’s funny how that works, eh?

One of the forums I participate in on a daily basis (and the largest of its kind) got bought out by VS earlier this year. There were many threads like this one but in the end nothing has really changed except the amount of Canadian jokes (VS is a Canadian owned company). The former owner of the forum is still an admin, although he does not participate as much as he once did (he is probably happy about that, and he did make a lot of money on the deal), all of the moderators are the same, the advertising has stayed the same. The only thing that has changed is they now send out a monthly newsletter which does feature interesting forum posts which usually feature some kind of vehicle build, so that may be where they might want to re use posts, however i’m not sure if they notify the original poster before they send out these newsletters.

Regardless, it will be interesting to see how MLS pans out, the best thing VS could do for that forum is to move it to VBulletin forum software, speed it up and restore the archives.

YMMV

I am very naive when it comes to commercialism of forums but if a really large car related forum with obviously much larger exposure than a niche garden railroad forum, is only worth a low six figure sum to VS, then how much would they offer for MLS??? $20k maximum possibly.

With no disrespect to Bob and most likely for our benefit, LSC has much less exposure in the railroad crowd and thus would be worth considerably less to VS.

Idler is here to present his own defence and correct any misgivings that those naughty expelled members from MLS might spread. He is not here as an agent for VS. If anything it is in their interests to shutdown LSC, thus leaving MLS as the only site to post on. It saves spreading their advertising dollars around. One forum with massive exposure is more attractive to a client than multiple fora with far fewer members.

Idler did not make a fortune out of this deal. I feel that he was at the end of his tether with personal issues and forum matters and wanted to make a clean break. Obviously, part of the acquisition would have been helpful assistance to the admin personnel of VS for a defined period, then he will be off to the wide blue yonder, far , far away from anything train related.

Shad has done the hobby a definate service against many odds, but maybe he should just take a bow, accept the adulation and then leave the stage while he is on top.

One thing to come out of this is how BENEVOLENT our benevolent dictator is.

The name calling is uncalled for, Tim…

Bob,
I must be mistaken as I thought that the name was his nickname as in the moniker that some here go by. So, that is not his name then.

All regarding Pulley, Bob.
Idler is one…one regarding is Sprocket.

Idler pulleys are crucial for drive engagement…

If you honestly believe that you can sit there with innocent doe eyes and say “but, Bob, we thought it was his nickname!” when its been used for YEARS by various trolls, pot-stirrers and troublemakers as a disparaging name for Shad, then you think I’m a complete idiot.

Just hope this , Bob"s website, does not get corrupted from the fallout. Been here a long time and have enjoyed being a member and will continue to be till the ride is over.

Bob has and is keeping this site up an running like it should of which I do appreciate very much.

So in my opinion, only the best did survive. Aint that the truth?

Interestingly, I remember a time, a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, when Shad actively participated in MLS and fixed problems, answered queries, etc. Much as our Bob does now. It was a fun place to hang out.

Then it got bigger, his family got bigger, the moderators came along, the archives went away, and we all know where that lead. . .

Pete are you suggesting we start a fundraiser for Bob to get snipped?

Shawn,

Calling someone “blauäugig” (in German) is the same as calling someone “naïve”; we have a lot of deer in our neighbourhood, they are all wary and wise.

So, what’s the term in Swiss, HJ?

HJ, But they taste so good with a little B-B-Q Sauce.

Naiv. with 263 synonyms to allow for a bit of variety and a closer fit.

Funnily enough, despite having been around LSOL, MLS and LSC for 15 (?) years, I had never heard that nickname - in fact, when I read Tim’s post, I was flummoxed
[good english word that. http://www.thefreedictionary.com/flummoxed]

Nonetheless, I gathered it wasn’t said in praise of Shad, and as he was known to be reading the thread, I thought it was in very poor taste.

I protect my main email rather well, just got an automotive email randomly sent to me, hmm wonder if it’s a coincidence

Probably naught. In fact, I did recommend updating (or loading) AdBlockPlus and Ghostery.
