Large Scale Central

My first Mik's Challenge

This will be my first entry into the build challenge. The Dunakin Building will be at the end of my main street, just to the left of the Depot. Two sides will be the challenge stone, the backside will be Magic Sculpted to represent a different kind of stone finish. The left side will just be sealed as another building will eventually be butted against it.

Here is my required napkin drawing followed by a not-so-napkin refinement. Some of the details are not shown, but will follow as budget allows.

Chris

That looks good Chris. I like the use of SketchUp. I use it because it forces me to work out all the little details before I start cutting material. The new building will be a nice addition to your railroad.

very cool building. Welcome to the challenge.

BFWs, LOL. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)

Looks like a BFD too!!!

Its a double BFD, so is that a BFD²?

No they aren’t. They are just DD (Double Doors) But they are big, 36" wide each, so technically they are 36DD. And I like 36DD. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)

Chris

Great looking plan, hmm does look a little familiar tho…

Look forward to seeing it a little later this year

Jerry

Well I hope they are all natural doors and none of those new newfangled silicone enhanced doors

Devon LOL.

Nice looking building Chris, looks like some serious competition for us first timers.

I think that 36DD BFD an wood should go together, even the silicone ones go with wood.

Always tough ground this slippery slope. How does one admire a beautiful creation made in the image of the creator without breaking a commandment, “thou shalt not covet”. Ah the dilemma of a broken man, and trust me when I say on this particular topic I am severely fractured. But this is not the place for my soap box so I will refrain from contemplating the rights and wrongs of the particular situation and depart by saying I will always be a fan of doors.

We are still talking about doors right?

It’s often said; When one door closes God will open another. Embrace it and find true bliss…

Hey, I can admire the creation without coveting it. There are so many fine builds on this site that I don’t want, but I can admire the fine craftsmanship that went into creating them.

And the same goes for God’s creations. I can admire the beauty of a sunset, a rainbow, or something else (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif), without coveting it.

LMAO…All this thread needs is a Blue Chicken to push it over the edge!

Chris

Wow, it’s amazing how much enjoyment men get from looking at doors and windows(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)

Looks great Chris, nice model! What will you use for your main wall substrate? Plex? Wood? Coroplast?
