I like that one too. I wish the ones I got had those lifting rings on the base . I think I will add those to mine . That will give me a cool place to add some chain tie downs . I noticed it was a 20 cylinder engine if I counted right. The ones I got are 16 cylinder.
Really nice work Mike!

. That being said the loads will be removable . I will have to find some suitable cargo restraints .
Excellent work, Mike - very nice looking.
For cargo restraints, try some chain and magnets. It turns out that a lot of our scale chain is magnetic so you can just get some small magnets to hold the loads down. It worked real well for my log cars.
Thats a cool idea Bruce , never thought of doing it that way. Gonna have to head to Hobby Lobby and see what they have . I have brass chain but i’ll need some other kind and magnets. If I would have thought of your method at the beginning I could have built the magnets into the sides and covered them with a piece of 0.10 plastic laminated over them. Maybe i’ll try that method on my next build. I’ll have to do a little magnet testing .
I’ve been working on load for this flatcar . I wanted the load removable with no permanent cribbing glued to the deck. I found some great pictures of a TTX flat that had close-ups of how a load was put on the deck. I came up with these wood and plastic cribbing pieces that are removable and look cool on there own as well. They fit into the side stakes on the side of the car. They also hold the generator load nice and snug and yet it comes off easy too. Thanks to Bruce for the magnet idea . They work great ! I used a small drop of JB Weld to hold the chain to the gen set. My wife picked up the magnets and chain I used at Hobby Lobby. Got half the car load done as of now and still will be doing weathering after that. It just looks way to clean for me .
Neat! I’m glad that worked out.
Typically, I get all of my magnets from KJ Magnetics - they have a great selection.
Mike, beautiful work on the load sleepers… Museum quality work…
Really nice Mike. Andy is right on the quality
Wow. Good to see this level of work in G scale. You may have just raised the bar!
Mike, It looks better and better the more you show of it. Your skills are impressive.
Nick
Yes^^^^^^^
Thanks guys for the praise . You are very kind . Haven’t had any time as of late to get to the second load . I’ll get to it soon though and post more photo’s .
Mike
Outstanding!
You and that Dunkin guy are way to talented! Keep up the great work! Oh ya great pic taken too!
Its been a while since I did anything on this car with the holidays and such . Finally got down to the shop and finished this project. I made the other 5 sleepers for the other generator . I also changed from 4 to 2 chains on each generator so I could use a simulated steel bar complete with hand grabs to hold the load from shifting from side to side. I know this will keep the load on the car when in use. I can now operate this car with a complete load or just the sleepers or nothing on the deck at all . Heres a few more pictures of the now complete car in various load arangements .I’m looking forward to seeing it in a train as soon as the 10"of ice that is covering the CJM melts. I’ll post some pictures of it after it gets some weathering on it.
Wholly COW!
2 generator loads!!
Just great work. I like how low the car sits. I get tired of seeing stock toyish looking cars sitting a mile high. You should be proud of this.
So do you have the model planned for what will unload them when they reach their destination?
I was thinking the CJM would have this crane nearby.I’m hoping it can lift them…http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PP9IMbA53Cw
…winking…
Mike those Generators look cool as hell. Again nice job and P.S. I cant believe you defaced that
CSX AML Hopper the way you did…
