As the old saying goes, misery loves company. Forrest, this one’s for you Put down a beautiful coat of Krylon flat black on this Annie. The paint was so flawless, I considered just leaving the entire boiler assembly flat black. I decided to apply a top coat of Rust O Leum Black Night Metalic. Big mistake
Immediate blistering
This was not the result of “too heavy” a coat. The paint was blistering on contact. Ralph
That sucks Ralph. I learned a long time ago that Krylon and Rustoleum are not compatible.

You didn’t ask…
Oh Ralph . . .
:…(
Bad moon for painting or negative numerology or something.
Yikes…
Dang Ralph. Hope that comes out in the wash
Ain’t nothing that can’t be fixed. Just takes time. Time I’d rather be working on something else.
I’ve used Rust O Leum over Krylon before. Just not over flat Krylon.
Live and learn
Ralph
leave it and call it weathering.
I vote with Geoff.
Geoff, is the business block you put together the one with the “brick” walls? Since we are talking about paint, what paint did you use on the “brick”? I haven’t found a color I like.
I plan to visit with the Colorado Scale Structures owner next weekend at the Southwest Garden Railway show.
Doug, I don’t remember what colors Geoff used, but there are pictures on the forum somewhere from this Winter. Here’s my block. I converted the fire station to a garage. The building in the middle is Rust O Leum Paprika. The color doesnt show well in the photo, but is the color of paprika. It’s a real nice “red” for brick. Ralph

I am reminded of an old Andy Rooney bit:
I wanted to spray paint something this weekend, so I looked at the label. It said “Must be free of rust, dust, scale, or paint.” If it was free of rust, dust, scale, or paint, I wouldn’t be painting it!
Ralph, that is a great color and I won’t mix it with Krylon!
On the buildings that have wood shake roofs I tried the Rustoleum textured brown and I’ve been happy with that. It’s a can I had left over from when I sprayed some shelves for my wife’s quilt room.

No rusty boiler for the flag ship of the fleet It will be doing passenger service and needs to look nice. Here’s the cab. Still needs a little touch up before it gets a matte clear coat.

And the coaches it will pull. Still working on two more.

Those coaches look great. Love the colors
I agree. Ralph really has talent when it comes to paint schemes.
Gonna be a classy consist there.
Thanks for the kind remarks.
Talent is not a word usually associated with me. Ornery, stubborn and hard headed are terms I’m more comfortable with
Maybe if it quits raining every day, I might get to do some painting and finish these things up. It has drug on so long, I’d like to move on to other projects.
I don’t know how some of you guys can scratch build entire projects in less time than it takes me to paint a coach. You can’t all be retired
Ralph
Even though I’m medically retired I don’t get half as much done as those that are still working!
