MIK's Build Challenge 2018

I managed to get all my wood cut and pinned together with no bloodshed. Possibly a first for me! The last cuts made yesterday evening were the scariest - trying to rip 3mm wide slices off a 2x4x7 chunk. It would have been smarter to go to a bigger piece but I was trying to stay within the original wood allotment and that 7" chunk was the last of it.

At work I keep this mangled piece of aluminum on my toolbox to remind me of the danger cutting small pieces on big saws. This chunk whizzed by my head a few months ago…

EDIT to add - YES - I know it’s spelled wrong! That way if the image is stolen I know that it’s mine (https://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif)

Well, I said I was in, but I haven’t decided what to do. Was thinking it would be appropriate to build The Procrastinator’s Club House, but we’ll put that off.

Like that Lou! Maybe someday I’ll add that to my Pike.

As a Professional Crastinator, I was just congratulating myself for labeling the timbers on my sketch, now to scrounge them up should the weather be encouraging.

Instead of a club house make it a union hall. Professional Crastinator Union local 9876.

Well, really, that could be modeled with the lumber still strapped to the pallets. Talk about a simple build.

With all the talk about table saw safety I would add to watch out for your nail guns.

This morning I decided to attach a few beams to my build before heading to the office and I have been using my 18 gauge nailer with 1" brads. I have used nail guns for many years and always remember to make sure that I keep my fingers far enough away in case the brad pops out at a funny angle or something. Well I thought I was OK holding the 2 pieces of wood together, pulled the trigger and the brad busted out the side of the wood and hit my finger just enough to cause a drop of blood. That was a very close call and it will serve as a reminder to me.

Be safe guys.

My pin nailer has been doing that a lot, and I have resorted to holding pieces way back from length of pin for a buffer zone.

Guys, I am formally withdrawing from the contest. This “cold” that I have been fighting has turned into something more severe, pneumonia. Friday on my way to work, I dozed off for a moment, and my van rolled into the car in front of me. No one was hurt, and the damage was very minor. That was my wake up call to go see a doctor. When he diagnosed my condition as pneumonia, I really wasn’t surprised. I am now on medication for the pneumonia, but I am still sleeping most of the time.

I would have liked to participated in this year’s challenge, but I have lost too much time, and I do not know when I will be awake enough, long enough, to play with power tools.

Get better Soon!!! David. I didn’t have pneumonia, but the flu sure did put me down for about week and half. Take care of yourself…

3 Weekends Down

2 To GO

TIME TO START WORRYING!

OK, I got it! I know what I’m gonna do!

[Could you wait any longer?]

Near the small log cabin where I was born, there was “Tessie’s Grocery”. Grandma would cross Hwy #1 to get there for whatever she needed and conversation - neighborhood gossip. I thought it was so big with 3 whole aisles! When I post the picture, you will see that it was a one car garage building, but being all of 3 or 4, to me it looked big! A true bit of my childhood.

I will start the build when I find the photo and a clean napkin.

What a great challenge project! Anxious to see it!

LAST WEEK GUYS!

The final countdown starts.

TIME TO START SWEATING

OK ok, I’m nearly ready to start!

What’s the hurry?

Hmmmm maybe yore right… break time!(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)

Just a gentle reminder.

4 DAYS TO GO!

Other then that it's just a piece of cake..

Dave, please tell me you are just testing to see if we are paying attention (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif). My rudimentary math skills tell me we have 6 days until 2/13 (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)

Maybe Dave is using new math!
