I will post a small tutorial in a few days of what I do to cut small strip wood safely on a table saw.

Band saws have an inherent bias to wander. Once my fence was set to counter that bias, I have never had to alter it, even using different size blades.

What bearing is bad on your table saw? I rescued my grandfather’s old Grizzly saw by tearing it down the nothing. Found 2 ball bearings that where bad. Took them down to my local hardware store and they had a drawer full of bearings. Found what I needed and reassembled.
Hmmm…Scrap wood, yes. Idea, after beer. Me thinks my Dremel, however, may have issues of adequacy. Never used a table saw, and I don’t own one, so I appreciate the rule addendum permitting the use of someone else’s skills. I guess I can compost my palm fronds, now…

It’s a It was a direct drive and the bad bearing is in the motor. A new fangled never go wrong sealed bearing.

@Chris K & et al: Yes you can use your pre-cut strip wood… But I will have to give you a two day penalty. You have to start actual construction 2 days latter then everyone else. Wait till they have a chance to cut also. And a penalty of 1/4 inch x 3/8 inch on the finished size of your bundle ( 1 1/4 tall x 3 1/8 wide) to allow for kerf.
@ Eric M. Palm Fronds? Give us a break… Next you will be complaining of the warm tropical breezes, and gentle waves lapping you toes as the grass skirted maidens bring you a cool beverage within a locale grown pineapple. BTW extra points for the palm fronds, and double if you have a R****otary Plow on you pike.

The manufacturer didn’t have spares, found one at Suckers Anonymous, I guess

While the real modelers are making lumber, I’ll be grooming mine. I’ll measure my thin cut blade and be fair assembling my 2x4 (finish). Not to exceed whatever that was …

I’m still undecided. I have two completely utterly different ideas, both are true to Mik. Only one is close to Dave’s outline, but I would literally be finished with it in a week and it would probably make the judges eyes bleed; the other is a scratch build on a completely different tack but also completely askew from this years challenge. I’ll likely do idea #1, just because, but I won’t expect any prizes for craftsmanship.

Thanks Dave, that will allow me to participate better as I currently don’t have a saw to cut the 2x4 into strip wood. The penalty for using precut makes sense to me.
