Mik's Build Challenge 2017

So far the PowerGrip worked really well. It set up faster than expected and I could work on the next side after only about an hour, so one days effort and the blocks are now attached.

I did all mine with Goop, only problem is some of the backs are kind of cupped and you need to put more in the cup, then the next one you have it gooshing out all over… well maybe its just me. In no way is it a knock on these fine products,

If anyone is in need of 4 or 5 of the extra long blocks let me know. I have all the long ones left and a few of the others alsoI was suprised on how many of them I used. they do cut easy too. Unfortunatly, the Taylor Stone Brand stone didnt make the cut on the fireplace, I will have to figure out how to add it somewhere else, do not want points deducted for not properly labeling the stone provider!

Pete, that’s why I set aside the really cupped ones, and the ones that aren’t cupped so bad I sanded the backs of them flat. Then all I need a thin smear of Goop.

I’m not having any problems with the cupping.

The GO2 Glue comes out as a thick gel and when you put a drop down, it sits higher then the underside of the cupping and squishes down by the weight/pressure of the block.

I had issues with the cupping also but I kept a small scrap styrene to clean up the overflow and just spread the excess onto the next spot.

Good news,  Bad news
HALF WAY DONE

3 more weekends is all thats left.

Remember Rule #1 applies in all ways!

So get off the computer and go build!

It has been tough keeping up with all the progress. But this year, as always, we are seeing some excellent projects, excellent craftsmanship, and a wide variety of ideas. Thanks to Dave’s stones we are all getting some great results. Its nice to see the new blood jumping in. What a fun challenge.

Thanks Dave, the participants, and the spectators for making this a fun adventure as always.

Great post!

(And by the way, I never get tired of seeing this: “…Listen up minions. I am not here to be your BFF, dry your tears or hold your hand while we sing Kumbaya, but when the shooting starts; and it will, I’ll be in it with you and I promise I got your back. Now RTFU and lets get this done” I think you’re on to something.)
