Mik's Build Challenge 2015

Im in at 1:20 scale. I have an idea all ready brewing

Count Devon Sinsley in.

Please in your initial build log post include if you are a rookie builder for the rookie of the year award/s.

Rookie is defined as new to the MIK challenge. Doesn’t matter how long you have been a builder or modeler. So first or second challenge or a long time since your last one. Its the honor system so if you say your a rookie then I will consider you a rookie. The court of public opinion will try you if your not a rookie.

It will be best overall presentation whatever that means to me the judge. So think not only design but set up and photography will count.

Devon

Dave,

Do you have a paypal account? I would love to defray postal costs for you.

Devon

Dave,

Count me in, in the Rookie class. This will be a team effort, SWMBO and my self.

Dave, plese PM me an address to forward necessary funds to cover the build and postage.

Bob when you do your build thread in the first post acknowledge rookie status. I will be looking and following thread but will be paying attention closely to the rookies

Dave,

have a question. what if I wanted to cut the wood myself, could you tell us what the sizes are in the various scales, or do we have to use your kit. I would rather use another material than Pine.

Al P.

Vic has decided on awarding his prize package to “The Best Napkin Drawing”

I’ve moved the list of prizes to the start of this thread, so you can better find them.

Gee, I don’t usually use drawings. I will do some math on a notepad, to get dimensions worked out, but my drawing is in my empty head.

What we need a prize for is “Best Lead Up to the Challenge”…

Some people just have to much free time on their hands…

Dave,

I am a little blurry on the rules. Is this an individual challenge or a team challenge? Some individuals have stated that they are using a team.

Joe, this individual (me) is alone. I do not think think my imaginary Shop Foreman (Tom Morrow), Lead Engineer (Sam “Smokey” Black), Lead Fireman (Chuck) and Custodian (Phil Thee) count.

David,

The reference was not including you. I realize Tom Morrow and the rest are fictional characters.

Joe. It’s a solo event, mostly, if you want to include your grand daughter to help you build I don’t think anyone would complain.

So are you in on the Challenge? Or what?

Yes team indeed. For this project I again retained the services of my crack science ninja team of Wallace and Gromit, who explained that Wallace will act as the scientific lead and Gromit will act as the fabrication specialist, but it past projects I found Gromit to also act as chief “keep it all from exploding” troubleshooter.

I do believe that others have also stated that they are using a “team” but I believe that their “team” consists of their children and/or significant others. Not any significant threat to my crack science ninja team!

Dave and Joe,

My wife and I do most things ‘railroady’ together. Both our families have history with the Pennsylvania RR. Hes in the Altoona ships, mine an engineer on L1 Mkes between Philly and Hoboken. Although she does not generally participate in postings and chat, we are a team and always have been. If this would disqualify us from the build challenge, so be it, no harm no foul.

I defer to your gracious decision Dave.

PS - Consider we are coming up on our 42nd wedding anniversary in February …

I would have some help but he keeps falling asleep!

GUYS WE ARE FORGETTING ONE VERY IMPORTANT THING…

RULE #1

Geesssseeee… Don’t matter to me as long as Rule #1 is observed.

As I am coming up on completing my first year of being involved with G-Scale trains and have not started into the art of kit building so I am going to sit this out this year. I am looking forward to some fine reading over the next two months from all of those participating.

Joe said that he was going to work with me. We is a team.
