Mik's Build Challenge 2014 - Adams Station

Thanks, Bob. Although the UK product is more appetizing, it would have been very slippery around the pool!

I guess your a non-swimmer like me Lou. Or is your staff that you are concerned about?

Uh, Alan, I was referring to the fact of making a deck around the pool out of a butter-like product. Other uses I gave up years ago. Too old for that.
Trying to keep this a family-friendly topic I exit, Stage Left…

Well. here’s my progress report. Got to painting it, and tried to rush wet paint, Sigh.

It’s really not that green, it’s supposed to be more Grey. The trim will be Hunter Green. That’s the way I remember the colors. Of course, everything, my memory included is faded.

My latest recycle find is the plastic U shaped pieces that were from the vinyl fence and gate. You can see a piece to the right. I cut them down for corners and trim, and they will be the dark green.

That’s it for today. Gotta go outside and bring in the painted trim before it gets much darker.

Lou

Lou, it’s looking pretty good. I’ve been waiting to see how you did this

Thanks, Hollywood!

I forgot to mention I spent over $7 on paint, so far the only expense!

Looking good!

Thanks, Ray.

Did you ever have one of those days?

First I found out out hot HOT glue can get.

Then everything I hot glued fell off!

Then when I used plastic glue I ruined the paint job on one side!

The path to my shed is a solid sheet of ice. So going out to paint a few things with my hands full was quite athletic.

On the plus side, I didn’t break my neck or require a trip to the emergency room.

If the paint dries, I’ll have more pix tomorrow.

…winking…

OK. Heck of a time to find out the roof don’t fit so good!

I’m taking a few vacation days during the next snowstorm so I should be able to figure it out. I’ve got the signs made, too.

Nice color choice!

That’s roughly what I remember: A light greyish green panels, and sharp dark green trim. I have an old Flagstop kit from the 70’s, I’ll have to dig out the directions. I think it had paint colors. And when I"m done, I will include a picture of Grandpop at the RR Xing.

I too like the colors…a lot.

Tom

As I head out to the back room to try to finish this, I am more than a little intimidated by all of the detailed and complex build. Mine seems to plain and simple. It was just a thrown together flagstop, only used by a few commuters to New York or New Brunswick. My Aunt tells me they used to ride into New Brunswick for ten cents to go shopping, it was the biggest town around. There was never much activity, or signs, no Railway Express. So it’s plain and functional. I did that and had fun. Now let’s go finish this thang!

All I have left is to figure out how I want to fasten the roof.

Night shot?

This is it.

I would like to post a picture of Grandpop at the Adams Station Crossing. Need to scan it, I only have paper copy of an early 1940’s picture.

Very nice. A great honor to your grandfather.

Doc Tom

Thanks, Doc.

Looks good Lou!

How did you make the bench in the vestibule?

Lou, your flag stop station has a simple elegance to it that all flag stops had. They were never meant to be more than functional, and minimal cost … just like the challenge. Well done.

Bob C.

Very nice job.
