Mik 2018, Pete's Folly of Ambition

Now that’s a good looking portal. You did good, Pete. Were it me, I would let the redwood age on its own but I’m no expert.

Looks great Pete! As far as your question about weathering. that depends on the look you are going for. Do you want to show off your nice work? Then leave it natural or apply a clear coat. If you want a realistic look then stain it to look new(darker, fresh creosote) or older (greyish color).

Steve

I am starting to have regrets for peer pressuring you into participating. (Note to self: next time you peer pressure a fellow competitor makes sure the stuff he builds looks like crap).

Boy! Do I know that feeling!(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-yell.gif)

That is one fine looking portal Pete. It reminds me of the Arc De Triomphe in Paris.

I am trying to figure out how to picture this for full dramatic effect and how to best display it for the portal to look halfway decent. Since my yard is pretty flat i have no natural mountains , so I am thinking of ways to make it look like a real portal. I may. Have to import some engineers and heavy equipment to excavate tunnel material

grab a shovel

Do a forced perspective inside, 4 trapezoids from grey to black meeting at the light at the end of the tunnel. You betcha! Line drawing of inner timbers fade to black…

LOL don’t worry Devon, compared to what I’ve seen, my entry is definetly this years Catfish Award (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)

0You were near our neighborhood when you went to Gold Coast!

We are about 1 1/2 hours southeast!

Hope you are recovering well.

Doug , due to traffic and other concerns we probably came a lot closer to your place down 395 to 15 to 10 east to get home. We have went across 18 to get to moms place before, and stopped at Charlie Browns Farm and had lunch

Well last weekend ( Saturday afternoon wife and I took a drive, what else would a truck driver do?) mainly because I fouled up and left a side box door unlatched and it blew off, we were hoping to find either the door or a the bundle of bungee straps that fell out after the door flew off. We found the door, kind of beat and bent a little but still still usable for now. Anyway I did have a little time Saturday afternoon to come up with something that could be construed as a mountain and a place for a portal to live for pictures. Parts and pieces include flagstone pieces , a large cardboard box and 3 pairs of black jeans to make the “tunnel “ dark. Took pictures with camera and with iphone I kind of like the iphone pictures better but still figuring out how to get them to my fright shed. Anyway waiting for the bell to ring and to see all the cool builds.

I thought I would add a fuzzy behind the scenes photo of my finished build.

you can see the box I used for a tunnel, the quickly stacked flagstone pieces, and the track to nowhere, along with my wifes now dirty jeans used to fill in light leaks

for a hurry and take some pictures thing I think it turned out OK. Thanks to all that followed along the build. Pete

HA You used your wifes now dirtied jeans !

I like the extra bracing you put on your portal.

very nice Pete.

they were in the basket she carries them to the washer, and were not folded, so I thought they were clean … boy did I find out they were clean, and now are not clean

Used to be round! Needs paint!

Beautiful craftsmanship!(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

2057 was sold to the CVRR a few years back …

The portal looks great !
