Large Scale Central

Mik 2017 Daktah John - McCown Freight Forwarding

That doesn’t look like a napkin to me…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

No it ain’t. But I like the design and proportions and it should look great when finished. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Still procrastinating, but updated the scale drawing to get an idea of material needs. I am undecided on the block section above the roof. As a flat, I’d like the roof to run all the way back to the wall; but that kills that nice spot for the sign. As drawn it would be a flat roof with the block being a parapet. I’d leave a little space behind it away from the wall to give a slight illusion of depth. It really depends on my block inventory.

The latest…

I would go with the parapet if you could. Most of the warehouse/freight house type buildings down on the flats have that feature, with the “sign” painted right on the parapet.

I agree; it just can’t be block as I don’t have enough. It will be wood siding or plank. I updated the design and I have enough block to do all of the lower face under the overhang, Above the doors to the top of the parapet will be wood or PVC carved to look like wood.

John,

I personally am hoping for the loading dock roof overhang rafters to match the ones you made from last years build.

Not happening this year. You will not be able to see under the overhang from where the building will be viewed. Going to be a PVC block or made from sheets. It will have the fancy molding slices though (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-smile.gif)

Now, If I only know how to run that CNC Router at work I could carve the rafters and the roof panel out of a pvc block. Kinda like 3D printing in reverse (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif)

Whatever …Just like last year as well!

John, when you get the freight building done, I have a order of wine, beer and ribs coming in from Matt and Pete. I Will need to stop and pick up my shipment… (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Holy carp - this thing is huge! I cut the substrate from PVC board scrap at work today. 13.5" tall and 67" long. Gonna take me till spring just to glue on all the blocks (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif)

Order a Pizza and invite the neighbor kids to come and glue them on for you. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Heck John, if you add beer to the mix, I’ll come glue stones for ya.

Just make sure you can move it to its intended location. I build stuff in my basement and sometimes it has been difficult to get it outside.(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif)

My neighbor did that, pizza and beer and he had plenty of help re-roofing his house. Unfortunately, some of his “help” had no clue how to nail down shingles.

I hear that. Remember McCurdy’s roundhouse in the basement; or weren’t you there that year?

Anyway; it’s a flat, so I’m not worried about moving it. I’m worried about stabilizing it so the stones don’t pop off. The substrate is only 6mm PVC. I might glue some aluminum U channel on the back to keep it stiff (cause I’m out of those blue pills).

John, my stones are on coro and even with some rough handling they have not moved off. Using Goop , and E6000… or is it EL6000

John,

we (OK I) need some construction photos, I love your work and the suspense is killing me

If there was any construction to show I’d be happy to pony up. I did get the drawing laid out on the substrate tonight. I started by drawing some baselines for the stone…

I continued on, laying out the positions for windows and doors…

I did notice when reviewing the pictures that the doors seem to high of the ground, and maybe too big. They are scale 10’ x 10’ in 1:20.3, but next to that boxcar they look large.

I do see in this pic that somehow I have the doors and windows drawn one course higher than in my Visio plan…

Here you can see if the doors were set at the proper course the height would be perfect. I might just cut that bottom course off rather than re-drawing it all :open_mouth:

I also checked out my Taylor Tin supply. I have enough to do the overhang. I was going to be lazy and run the corrugations horizontal, but I will probably decide to cut them and keep them verticaly as they should be.

I need to paint my stones so I can get busy gluing. Last weekend would have been perfect, not so much now. Maybe I’ll take them to work with me.

I was talking to the CNC Router guru at work today; he thinks he can run my windows and maybe doors too If I get him full scale vector files. Guess I have some drawing to do.

I’d just lower the bottoms of the doors, higher windows are common in ware houses. You can stack more along the walls and less can be seen from the outside.

John

Well that’s constructionish. I do like the doors at the proper height.
