Mik 2015 Challenge ... JC's CHFX2

Chompin’ at the bit … plans are coming together on the nappy…here’s a peek;

Either those are very small napkins or one very large computer mouse

Took me a while to scrounge a true nappy, started with trusty post its. I did mention that earlier in this thread. I’ve noted your lack of attention, so forgetful eh???

The nappy has the drawing the post its are details highlighted…

I’m headed to bed, gonna need a couple active cells for this.

your Professional Crastenator,

John

For the record John for us on the eastern sidre of the Atlantic, a nappy is what you folks Stateside call a diaper. (http://www.cosgan.de/images/smilie/frech/r020.gif)

A nappy is where parents send the little ones so they can regain some of their sanity. Usually after the American nappy there is a British nappy to change!

Are you saying my plans are full of it?

Ya I’ve seen what you folks do to our language, not always brilliant!

To change big wheels to little, I had to modify the gears, above the left gear rides the motors gear and I had to pin the other one to the axle. The drive wheel axle lost the outer gear which was larger than the wheels. The smaller wheels should compensate for the missing gearing reduction…

I lost a more clever post… dang!

First pics washed out with these…

The axles get lengthened, but here is the drive train. The orphan gear ring was cut off the axle gear, too big to clear the rail head.

1950 Chicago Hardware Foundry salvaged railroad cars for hardware. That year they took a Burro Crane apart;

With the crane gone it lost weight

My postings have been clipped, after posting pics I hit enter and a pic was erased…

I got the wheels mounted to extended axles and the outside frames match the wheel base so the Burro Block is ready for the platform and cab…

It’s rough, but will firm up as Mik’s Masonite gets cut to fit around the block top…

Please ignore the ring it’s propped against.

What Luck those side frames are perfect, when I use Mik’s eyes! I’m trying to use his vision… on this build. Oh my madness rules, but I’m open to his imagineering too.

I still have to remove the gear bump, it’s bigger than the wheels…

John

This is what John’s work space looks like!

Nope y’all need some clutter in there!

See?

Well… deep breath … the beat goes on.

Above; Toy wheels are terrible , but it’s all together now. The end platforms and railings are from an Aristo bobber. And yes it was in my junk box, all my 4 wheel cars are consigned there. I think they make better parts.

$7.00 for a toy truck, got a candy apple blue …

I stripped it tad… after cutting off the hood, I removed the fenders. Then I cut some .010 styrene and glued in inside the hood and filled in the blank with contour putty. I also changed it’s rake and am making a wooden stand to raise it up some.

The 2 blue bits are the fenders… over here is the hood and the first of 4 get on the car thingies…

See ya later.

You got a lot done for taking a break…

I like where it is going.

Therapy…

Jeepers John your saw is going to need a new blade by the end of this challenge and you better watch out for the Cops they might think you are operating a chop shop !! LOL

That is clever to use the motor out of that cheapo set.

I’m looking forward to your progress.

I finished the hood and stand and began laying the deck… but first I should layout the walls and posts.

Rain on the window and I rushed out doors to cover the wood pile.

Too Late!!! Couldn’t have been more than 5 drops and Boing!

What’s in that New Mexican wood?

Gonna be tricky using that corner post!

Funny thing my foreman says it looks good to him! Not sure I trust the Stoned Wash Construction boys from TuStoned Az.

More to come…

John

Uh oh … glued the deck on and no pics! CryStarted the uprights and side walls.

The front of the prototype is way too busy, but it does provide an inspiration.

The bobber has solved my resistance to making multiple parts … windows!

I have been using up Dave’s wood as I can, but a strip of Cedar just lying on my desk is Perfect for spacing 3 windows for the front door.

Sorry about the false color but these were taken indoors…

The bobber also volunteered a door, it will be turned around for the back door. The battery pack slides forward and fits in the black area, it also fits between the railings.

That orange thingie is a too big gas tank, I’ll either cut a third out or find another tank.

Time out for football.

John

Looks to be coming together nicely John
