Micro in a wine barrel

I had a spot on my deck that was empty and really needed something. Since my wife could not think of anything I took it upon myself to fill that void. I got the idea from the Hartland wine Barrel Kits. I have always liked that idea but was not willing to fork out the cash for one plus I had all the materials on hand. I went out and bought a wine barrel. I already had some aristo 31 inch curves and the small rolling stock and engines. I first made some braces out of wood to hold the track to the outside of the barrel. Then I added the dirt some rock and plants. I still want to add a small structure to crerat some sort of theme. So far here is what I came up with. My wife actually likes it. What is nice is I can change it up for the seasons/holidays. Vic will like this one.

Nice! I always liked these teeny wine barrel layouts. Simple and to the point. And fun.

Love it, looks great, versital stuff that Aristo track aint it?

Cool.
I’ll be expecting pictures of the Halloween train this fall

Cool

Bottle of wine, fruit of the vine…

Neat set-up…

Here is the rolling stock Im going to use. I just painted the flat and now I just have to add some wood decking to it. I also had to play with the couplers, cars kept derailing. I tried link and pin, the bachmann and hook and loop couplers, and nothing seemed to work. My solution was to flip the bachmann coupler arm upside down (that was just for the height issue) and then put the knuckle on the same way but cut the tail off. That gave the knuckle a 180 degree rotation and extended it out some. Now no derailing issues.

Looks good. Surprised the H&L didn’t work. Glad you found a solution.

I did a few more improvments to the wine Barrel layout. I added a spruce tree, a cabine from timberlines kit. (I cant believe they are no longer in business) I also added some animals to give it that woodsy feel, like a bear and a male and female moose. I did a short video as well. Lowes still has the barrels for around $35 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wHK1yvjfvj8

Even better a pink eggliner. I think I will send a picture of one to his wife. LOL

Hey Shawn, seen this?

Ya know ya have to enter

I have plenty of time for that vic. I think I might try it out. The wine barrel might be too small based off of their requirments but my KMRR might work out.

I think you guys should both enter …Vic should do his plantings in pots in front of the structures. (Michaels has winky clay ones)

I already inquired, their looking specificly for examples of small outdoor layouts, so Shawn is in, but with no outside layout I’m out

OK....your always welcome too pick up your toys and play in Roosters sandbox if you wish! I still think if you put planters on it and stick it outside you could be in.

I don't know, Shawn. You might have a hard time selling the KMRR as being built on "compact or difficult" area. A Texas rancher might think of 14 acres as compact, but most city folk won't ;) Ralph
