Meteorological Spring - The Offical Thaw Pictures Thead

Dont worry…

Spring is just around the corner

:stuck_out_tongue:

No sign of spring in my area. The stuff just keeps coming.

The three little black spots are the top of my Alberta Spruce. 3 feet tall

That windmill platform is 4 feet from the ground.

I am so ready for spring. The forecast is for another 25 cm. (10 inches) over the next 36 hours.

Ron

BRR. No snow but it sure was frigid here the last 24 hours. Sun today looks like spring - hope it feels like it soon.

Vic: LOL!

The thaw here is not going quite as planned. Our high is lower than the average low. :frowning:

Don’t know where they went. The Blue Moon Saloon burned down a few years back. I need to build a new bar.

Bruce,

You need to ask the Governor to declare a State of Emergency. If the RR bank balance is getting below or into the red you could always ask the Government for a bale out. lol

I am sure the J&B has an old boxcar or reefer that it can make into a Bar.

Nah, I still run all of my old rolling stock. I just need to find a good prototype to inspire me.

Great day to run trains today. Sunny with temps pushing 50. We lost a lot of snow pack today. Diesel M-11 was called to pull a freight excursion…

It’s been a while since M-11 was out on the line. Clearances at Natural Bridge are getting tight…

While I was running trains an AT&T salesman dropped by. He couldn’t sell me a UVerse subscription but I may have interested him in garden railroads - he hung out for about 15 minutes asking all kids of questions.

Temps to 61 are getting the snow out of Clarksville Tennessee. Thought it was a good day to run some trains.

#110 on the point moved a freight train down the line from Elkmont past the new Fish Camp Commisary.

But “drat it” a snow drift blocked all progress at Tremont Logging Camp.

This little rail road on the Little River in Tennessee never had a snow plow like its RR cousins out West and up East. So the boys need to wait for some more warmer weather before moving further down the line.

Doc Tom

That doesn’t look like anything your strong backed crew and a couple of shovels couldn’t handle :]

Great pictures Jon and Tom. The backwoods boys up here wish they had that much snow Tom. Cabin fever is really setting in up here. Once this snow melts, we will be dealing with mud season next. Spring cant come fast enough. On a positive note my friend stopped by today and gave me some lesson on using my Lathe.

Well the P&CS needs some track leveling before the trains run. But today the pond thawed and the fish got some sun. I was happy to see those little faces again, after the bitter cold we had this winter.

I have several spots like that David. Once the ground firms up I’ll get them flattened out. For now the trains get over them. I have a few cars that will uncouple going over the transition, but no big deal.

If you want to see how bad your track is out of level - just put a video camera behind a string of box cars and watch the roof lines!

Jon, oh, so now I need to buy a video camera? My super 8 movie film camera wont work huh?

Sure the 8mm will work, so long as you can find film and a place to process it, but those big honkin’ VHS camcorders - fogetabowdit :]

Jon, yea the film is a problem. I was unhappy when I could no longer find film for my Poloriod instant camera.

I can usually look down the rails and see the really bad spots.

But for the spring rehab I use a small torpedo level, a 2 foot level and my step block.

I haven’t heard mention of a step block in many years. A very valuable tool for track work and easy to make.

I’m really not suggesting that video is the best way to find bad track, but when you take video over car tops on bad track you will be made aware! This video at around 4:00 is what clued me in :]

Kind of reminds me of an amusement park ride!

Hey yeah! It IS like a roller coaster ride right there.
