Maynard's 2017 Entry

Napkins? Ah, gee, I usually don’t do drawings. I just start building and roll with it.

Since almost all of the buildings in Shannon, back around the year I am modeling, were wood. That basically left me 2 choices. The First National Bank, and Hamilton School. Since Hamilton School was a massive structure, I was not even going to ever include it on my railroad. So, the First National Bank it is.

Yea Rooster, I know. Its actually a brick building, not stone. But I am taking out my Modeler’s License, and “adapting” to suit the materials that will soon be at hand.

That’s a cool little building

Devon, for many years that’s where I did my banking. After Pittsburgh Nasty closed that branch, it became another business. I forget what is in there now.

Back in the early 20th century, there was a bank robbery/gunfight in the bank, and the pursuit/gunfight continued up through the golf course about 1/2 mile behind the bank. Back then citizens grabbed their rifles and joined in, without being asked, nor being reprimanded for doing so.

Cool history also. Can’t wait to see what you come up with. Those front columns will be of interest.

You going to get one of our 3D printer buddies here to make the capitals? Or maybe you’ll make like Michelangelo and carve them yourself?

These guys here go down only as small as 8" columns!

That must have been before the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), that insured your deposits up to, then, $2,500. If your money walked, it was gone. I’d grab my rifle, too.

I see plain white straws being used

You know you could be onto something. using a base cylinder a guy could glue up half straws alternating convex and concave to give it a fluted look. Of course thats not how the original column is but I might file this one away for later.

Hehe you could buy one of these and then start making successive molds and shrink it. Here’s how https://www.smooth-on.com/support/faq/155/ it reduces 15% each time. Not sure what the math comes out too in order to shrink it to 1:24. lol might blow the budget me thinks(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)

In all seriousness here is an Ebay listing for 1:24 half columns. Cut off the capitals glue them together and then cast them and add your own column. Could do the bases the same way. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Half-Scale-Half-Round-Column-Set-UMCO6-polyresin-dollhouse-miniature-1-24scale-/192004166271?hash=item2cb457127f:g:q8QAAOSwxH1T2Bm3

I have columns in storage, somewhere around here. I bought them in the wedding cake decorating department of the craft store, many, many years ago.

Sounds like its time for an expedition through my storage boxes.

Hey let me know how the size of those works out. Never would have thought of that, what a great idea.

Hey Maynard, if you use straws, the bendy straws could be used as the rolled bead at the bottom

Yeah, I don’t know Pete, I’ve tried that for pipe-works and they always kink no matter what. What I ended up using is either clear tubing, the kind you use for frigidaire ice-makers and the like, or, if it’s smaller, the line that’s used for weed cutters (you can get it pretty thick). The sell wooden rings at the craft stores, but the diameter has to be just right.

The good thing Maynard has going for him is that he can hide the joint behind the column, which’ll make life easier.

I need to brave the cold and go on a hunting mission in my garage. Since it was 9° F outside, the last time I checked, I am Devoning that mission for a while.

John…,

John…,

You live in Colorado where this is commonplace. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Recognize that PA lags behind the other states in the recreational use of stoning kits/products. Maynard has no choice but to hide the joints. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-yell.gif)

Todd, the City of Pittsburgh has made recreational use legal. But I don’t live in the city.

no thread drift here, that went completely sideways quickly

The columns from the wedding columns work well. I used them for my bank many years ago and they have held up very well over the years.

Pete, and that is apropos for one of my threads. Since I have always been a bit “off centre” (shut up Rooster), going sideways is the norm for me.

That’s hilarious Todd! The goofy part is I didn’t see any of it when I wrote it! Maybe some second-hand smoke is getting to me just by walking around.

One BILLION dollars of weed was sold in Colorado last year. You know how much artwork those “recreational” and “medicinal” potheads bought from me?

ZERO BILLION.

EDIT: And, by the way, Maynard…if that bank structure of yours were vacant for forty-five seconds anywhere in Denver County, it’d be painted green and turned into a Dispensary. (Dispensaries are what pothead stores are called out here.)
