Large Scale Central

Mancos

On another thread I mentioned building a new station for Mancos over the winter. This is what it looks like now.

This is what I plan to build over the winter.

I finally found a pretty good picture of it in one of my books.(I knew I had one somewhere)

The freight end will be another Colorado Scale Models building that I used on the Hesperus Depot. The depot itself will be scratch built with some coroplast That Jon continually supplies us with. The rest has been ordered from Caboose Hobbies, Precision Products veneer, and evergreen styrene V groove siding. In addition to this, I plan on rearranging the track on the layout at Mancos, somewhat closer to this:

It may or may not become a passing siding, space will determine that plan and I don’t think a wye will fit there either.

It looks a great project Ken. I am sure many of us will look forward to Spring to see it completed and in situ with the other items on your splendid railroad.

Thanks, Alan, that’s encouraging…

I will keep you informed of the progress as this progresses…

Ken, I agree with Alan… it’d make a nice addition to the railroad…

Since it was raining, and I finished up the water tower:

I got started on the Mancos Depot:

Got the sides cut out and gluing the bracing to the inside.

Whats the bracing, Ken? Looks like PVC or tuf-board?

Well, it’s a PVC board actually. The brand name is TrimPlank, same as what I use for the ladder roadbed, but this stuff is 6" wide.

Great start Ken. You are like me, always eager to start another project.

It was rainin…I was bored…

Looks like a great start, Ken

What did you use for banding on the water tower? I’ve got one of those that will get a tune-up this winter.

Gee - I recognize some of that material

Nice start Ken.Looks like it will make a great addition to the town. When is the proposed ribbon cutting ceremony taking place?

Good start Ken. I need try out that coroplaste stuff. Looks like its easy to work with. I need to reroute a section on my layout. Except I dont let the rain get in my way

Jon, it’s the Evergreen Styrene V-Groove siding. 125"x040" thick.

I just ran my knife down the grooves. Probably could have used the thinner stuff, but I had this on hand.

Yea, I have one more to do…

March............after York...............;)

Cool!!
I love stick style…you know the Circa of that station?

That is a terrific little station! I like the “tower” on the front. I might adapt that design for a depot I’m planning, but mine would be made of stone, with more of a Southwest look.

Yup...1893

when the RR was built…

It’s starting to take shape…

And I think I found a color that matches the other buildings, in a spray can…

The tower is added, though I think it may need to be a bit taller:

Won’t get too much done today since I head to Florida later, but my order should be in when I get back…

A little bit of progress. Wasn’t too happy with the tower so I made it a bit wider and taller.

And did a little work on the roof.
