Making a grab for our cash

Our friends in the Federal government are proposing a 50% fuel tax increase due to the reduction in driving by the American public.
I guess they think we are stupid.
Miles driven nationwide are down 4%. But they need a 50% increase in the tax to compensate for a 4% reduction in revenue

Here in NC they are talking about charging us by the mile to make up lost revenue.
Ralph

The elected officials here in Ore-Gun is suggesting the same thing. A mileage tax. What will they do when more cars are made to run part time or full time on batteries?

Seems they don’t remember when we had to pay more for the garbage service and others when the fuel costs were high. The price of service never came back down when the fuel prices caved in.

Is there anywhere one could live without idiots running the show? Your version probably doesn’t differ…

Cheers,

Gotta fill the hole somehow Ralph…

I read about Oregon. They are talking about putting GPS units into vehicles to track the milage.
Big Brother will be watching!

Government at it’s absolute highest level of stupidity…taxing miles driven!

This would require more cost to us the taxpayer because it requires monitoring. Someone needs to be paid to check my odometer and record it, then process the bill and my payment. A per gallon tax IS a mileage tax as the more miles I drive, the more I pay. But a per gallon tax is a “free” mileage tax, no paperwork needed, just 'fill-er-up". We were all so upset about the future Prez that we neglected concern over the local idiots in our own state. The lower in position from Prez you get, the dummer the polititian, right down to the local alderman.

We had a similar thing happen out here, though not with gas. During our major drought in 2002/2003, Denver water put out this huge “conservation” program urging people to conserve. Evidently it worked. We made it through the drought. Unfortunately their revenues fell through the floor, and they raised our rates to make up for the reduced demand. We save their bacon, and they charge us for it.

What was that about neutrons held together by morons?

Oh yes:

Quote:
It has 1 neutron, 12 assistant neutrons, 75 deputy neutrons and 111 assistant deputy neutrons for an atomic mass of 312. These 312 particles are held together by forces called morons that are further surrounded by vast quantities of lepton-like sub particles called peons.

Hmm. What’s with the quote box?

Here in The People’s “Republik” of Washington, our Gubbinor, the Grinch Chris Gregoir has promised “No New Taxes.” Seems to me I’ve heard that one before. So she now has to somehow figure out a way to do it with user fees. You see, user fees are not taxes, are they? :stuck_out_tongue:

Every politician should serve two terms, one in office, and one in jail!

Additionally I caught a snippet on FNC about a “smog” tax. Vehicle made since 1999 have MPG ratings and we may be taxed on a sliding scale dependent on what vehicle you drive.

…and the hits keep coming.

Steve,
Those two terms got me rolling. I whole heartedly agree

He’s learning from our Gubbinor, the one and only Tim Pawlenty. Once considered as a running mate for you know who. Being a hard core Republican he does not believe in new taxes either. Of course it did not stop him from coming up with all sorts of “user fees”. I don’t like either party very much, but at least the Dem’s are upfront about picking your pockets and don’t resort to this kind of B.S. I guess it depends on what your definition of “is” is!

Oh, Mr. Pawlenty also mentioned the mileage tax as a possibility…but it was a “usage fee” not a tax!!!

That's an Illinois tradition :D

At least the Amish don’t worry about fuel and mileage taxes.
Hmmmmm…
My wife’s horses might come in handy after all.

They have to tax mileage, cause after all, in the near future, cars won’t need gas.
Maybe a battery tax?

I live in the great sales tax free state of Delaware. When you buy a new car you don’t pay a sales tax but you do pay a 'Documentent Transfer Fee" of 3.75%. I wonder what the state has to do to transfer the documents on a $20,000.00 car that would cost $750.00.

Big John

Some freaking moron had a column in the local paper today complaining that he doesn’t like getting “free” trash service, and begging the city to start charging for it. First off, it’s not free and never has been free – it’s paid for by our taxes and is part of the city charter.

Secondly, there a plenty of other services, far less vital, that the city could easily cut before charging us for trash pickup.

And third, if this jackass has so much excess cash that he feels the need to fork more of it over to the city, he should just hand it to them and leave the rest of us out of it.

Conjures a lovely image........... the trash piled up at the curb of the deadbeats who don't pay their bill. Ralph

Sometimes we here in Ore-Gun don’t get screwed. Buy a new car and no sales taxes but just registration-license fees. Costs you ask? A couple hundred and then you are registered-licensed for 4 years. Thats it…
Cheers

In Illinois, there’s even a $40 fee that goes to the dealer for doing all the paperwork.
