Well, for some…

but for others…

Thanks. These are based on the original design that I had Mark print for me, but I thickened them a lot. Having them be scale size just didnt work out. These should be much sturdier.

Yeah, I think scale is great for indoors, but outside you need something that will LAST - and stand up to the elements and wildlife.

I thought you gave up your outdoor RR because it out LASTED you ?

Don’t worry about wildlife ain’t nothing on on LSC except Roosters

And on and on and on and on

Dredging this thread back up. Starting work on the coal conveyors. The prototype has three, coming out of the wall over the tracks.

The conveyors were covered, and were raised and lowered by an operator in the cabin above the tracks. My conveyors wont be a true to prototype, but I will have three (since Ill have three tracks under) and probably the whole operators cabin and hoist framework.

FIrst off, the conveyors themselves. Some thin-wall aluminum I beam from the scrap box, piece of a timing belt, and a some 3d printed parts, will give a reasonable look.

Bob, that looks excellent. I love how you’re using “mixed media” to accomplish the build!

Ahhh, So you done went with them timing belt idea! I got one here that I just yanked off a Honda Pilot V6 this week. It’s a hair over 3/4" wide but if you cut it it’s about 5’ long. It’s yours if you want it otherwise file 13.

I didnt like the end support, it was too bulky looking, so I’m reworking it some. First is some details on the end of the conveyor belt itself. The drive motor and some greeblies on the other end.

Prints need a bit of cleanup before assembly, but I like the look. I’ll be adding some electrical conduit details with 1/16 welding wire.

Really love how you did the 3DP aesthetic overlay on the structural aluminum channel, brilliant.

The top and bottom of the ‘beam’ will have a capturing C-channel as well, since just gluing PLA+ to aluminum will eventually just fail. Capturing it will provide a physical connection as well.

Excellent.

For glue, are you using methacrylate? IMO that provides the surest bond. Needs the investment of application gun, and buying the disposable mixing nozzle-tubes, but it sure does a wonderful job at bonding.

I’m a big fan of 5 min epoxy. Havent tried MMA yet.

Roger that.
MMA can be used as a structural alternative to fasteners, in some real life circumstances.
Ain’t cheap! The gun might be $25. But once you get it, all the standard 50ml cartridges fit.

Have you tried this tape? This is what Oley Valley provides with the flat car kit to bond steel to the other parts.

Just ordered some of that tape, it looks pretty neat. High-strength tapes and all have come a long way.

Epoxied the belt into the chute. Once these are dry, I’ll add the detail pieces on the side beams.

Dang. I was hoping you were going to animate it!

HOPING???
I thought it was expected!
If I was forced to make Utility run and not be a static model I will consider this project unacceptable!

Upper and lower beam details epoxied in place. Next up is some sanding and fill on the ends of the beams, and then the details for the lifting mechanism.
