Large Scale Central

Majestic Colliery Rebuilt

Mark could be the go to guy from now on.

That is a great idea! It would save me a couple of years struggling with all the details.
Mark, could U print me an AC6000 or ES44AC in 1/32 scale? (1/29 would do too!)

You should be able to cast the frame easily, the panes might be a pain  If you want a dozen panes send me a line

Windows arrived this weekend. They look GREAT. Started cutting out the window openings for them, and then will start assemble the building. Pictures when I actually make some progress.

Just think you could be the first to post a pre-build picture for us. Why wait for progress

Second picture in the thread shows current progress…

Major pieces assembled.

Starting production of the corrugated siding. I need a lot of it.

Lunchtime-worth of siding:

Looks like a professional is doing the siding job.

Now that ops season is just about over, Im bringing the colliery back into the shop to finish it. I put it out for TrainOps, and to get some natural weathering on the siding. Next up will be fixing some loose siding, adding corner trim, finishing the roof, adding a floor, building the mine conveyor, and other various details.

Here's a couple shots as to how the siding weathered, and how the 3d printed windows fared over the last couple of months. I'm going to clearcoat the siding to slow down the process. I will also add clear acrylic to the backs of all the windows.

I like the weathering . It looks just right .

Looks great, Bob. When it comes to those conveyor covers or chutes, I’ve been thinking of the tiny tin cans that tomato paste comes in. Several soldered together might do the trick for ya. Some of the guys in the picture are waiting for your verdict, others are trying to get at the stuff in the can…

Some springtime work on the colliery building roof. Still need to finish the roof, add some braces, back the windows, add a sign, and get the lighting installed. Oh yea, then there’s the shaft conveyor and loaders to build.

Looks great, Bob. Is that a piece of 1:1 scale roofing (or maybe rolled roofing material) that you used for the roof? Its got some nice texture. How’d ya do the seems?

-Kevin.

That’s 2" wide tread tape, used for steps and ramps to make them grippy. It has an insanely sticky glue on the back that sticks it to most anything. For the seams, Im using black DAP Dynaflex 230. I have a very small hole in the tube and run out a bead, then use a popsicle stick to dab and smear it around.

Very neat building. Like the finish weathering.(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-sealed.gif)

Really nice, Bob. The windows look great. Just the right scale for the building. Love the roofing. I have used sandpaper in the past, but that Tread Tape is perfect. It scales well and has enough texture to sit nicely with the corrugated siding and the weathering.

Bob

That looks very nice, I love the rusty look, Is that steel shim stock, to make the corrugated siding?

and what was your rusting technique.
