Large Scale Central

Looking for free web page

I am looking for a free web page to post some of my pictures.
Can anyone suggest any thing?
Thanks in advance
David

You could consider Picasa web David. It is part of the Google empire. I use it purely for pics of my railroad as do one or two others I know of in the States.

Yahoo, Trainweb, Photobucket for storing pictures…Myfiles right here on LSC…

Many of your service providers provide space along with your email.

I use Largescalecentral.com. A friendly group of people that offer great support, good backups and simple operations. If you need more info contact me or our friendly troll, Bob McCowen.

I agree, but I was thinking of a web page of just out there in web world.

websites are like lunch - there are none for free.
either you “pay” by suffering the ads, that a “free” provider chooses to torture you and your visitors, or you pay some money for space without nuisance.
after more than tyen years using of ad-financed free space, i changed to paid space.

now i got hundreds of pics plus my website plus my own address for about 40 dollars a year.
and there is even cheaper space avaiable.

but if you want free, look at http://www.funpic.de

i still got my old website in form of an unused forum with them. http://kormsen.ko.funpic.de/forum/index.php

NObody said FREE, I’m just supporting the cause and putting my money where my thoughts are.

I’m with Ric…best 20 bucks I spent anywhere.

The Picasa web albums work well. I've seen no advertising on mine, so far. No bandwidth limitations like Photobucket, that I'm aware of.

If you have Facebook, you can also make your Facebook photo albums public, without requiring people to be “friends”.

Korm, very true and maybe I miss spoke. Though I guess I pay for the storage of my pictures, I just don't think my $20 goes for that.

Support free enterprise, its that back bone of the USA.

I have to disagree. Google Sites is free and will only put ads on your website if you ask them to - default is "not monetarized".

Take a look at http://www.ebt-in-fn3.info/ (which has a special URL pointing to the google site)

and http://sites.google.com/site/riograndemodelsuk/.

I have a slide show in Picasa of our EBT fan trip, and it is embedded in the website on the bottom of this page:
http://www.ebt-in-fn3.info/home/m-1-railcar

I also have free websites anywhere that they give me storage. Comcast provides my cable modem, and my daughter has her pages of photos of her crossstitch at http://home.comcast.net/~peter.thornton/kate/index.html

and I use a page of her site (on my Comcast space) for details of stuff I sell
http://home.comcast.net/~peter.thornton/kate/html/sales.html

well, proving me wrong has the nice side effect, that David gets enough sites to elect.

Korm, I wouldn't go so far as to say you're 'wrong' - Google has its problems in that you can't just make up a webpage with thumbnails as easily as I do with Netobjects Fusion [that's how Daughter makes up her x-stitch pages.] And there's no telling how long Google Sites will continue to be free.

Incidentally, Google has an interesting approach to customer support. You can report bugs to them and they seem to get around to fixing the bugs at their leisure. But they also provide user forums to discuss the problems (due to lack of documentation,) and Google Search is a great tool for finding answers in the forums!

David,
This brings up another issue that you have to grapple with. Some providers have a package of software that lets you make up your web page without any techical knowledge or external software. Google for one - the system lets you ‘edit’ a page, ‘upload’ and ‘insert’ photos, etc. You can change the colors, page layouts, etc., but you can’t do anything really fancy.

Comcast has a similar system - see my old page at http://home.comcast.net/~pthorton1/wsb/html/view.cgi-home.html-.html.

You can learn HTML and create your pages from scratch using a PC editor like MS Notepad, but that’s tedious and unnecessary in this day. There are several simple software packages available that create the HTML pages for you - you just do the layout and put the stuff where you want it. Much like MS Powerpoint or MS Word. [Both of which will generate and upload web pages if you ask them to, but it is really, really clunky and tedious - not recommended.]

I use Netobjects Fusion as it has a neat photo gallery mechanism. It creates the thumbnail layout and then generates the individual pages automatically as a a stacked set. For my real estate work that is pretty useful and time-saving. Here’s an example: http://www.annapolisluxuryproperties.com/html/268providence.html

Ifin ya uses Firefox, and get the add on ad blocker plus, you’ll never see another ad ever!! Now this is the last time i’m a tellin ya, and yes there are a couple that work in IE, but are not as good. That’s the reason I’ve stuck with Firefox, fer over 2yrs. primarily cause we don’t want no stinkin commercials interruptin our live shows. Some people refuse to switch, and then “bitch” about the commercials and or ads. Well ifin ya don’t take good advice, and or suggestions, then you’ll just have to put up with em then won’t ya!! Hah LOL Regal

Der now I even put in the download fer ya! Get yerself Firefox the latest download, and den do the below!

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/adblock-plus/

Now its yer fault if you ever see an ad again!!

Thanks Jerry. I already use Firefox and will add it. When’s the next live show?

Even though I like Google “fixing problems at their leiusure” is an understatement. I think they have about two employees fixing problems – or maybe 1!

If you’re using an ad blocker (and I do, too!) I humbly ask that you disable it for LSC. I have to pay the bills, and our ads are simple and unobtrusive. No dancing garbage.

Thanks Bob. Those were the only ads I wanted to get rid of. Yours are fine.
