Large Scale Central

Logging operations

Don,

What are you doing in Iraq? Are you a serving soldier, sailor, Marine, airman or Coastie? In any case, thank you for your service.

Don where did you get the horses and what scale are they. I need a set like that.

Shawn,
I have no more pictures of the mill that day. However it was a madhouse there and was more focused on keeping an eye on my son. I can drive out there anytime and get shots of the mill if you can wait. It’s only 10mins if that from here. What details are you after and of course the tractor will not be running it.

Actually you may find some here

Shawn
A guy named Reuben Culp still has eyes good enough for that, so makes them. He has a website for them, and was trying to advertise on the board here I think…
I’ll forward his data to you via email. I just picked up another pair of them, a clydesdale and a palomino.
Steve,
I’ll drop you a line on email so as not to get accused of thread-jacking…

Failed to mention that are a smallish 1:20th scale, so should be good through 1:22.5 with a slight distance.

David - Im just trying to get a better idea of the how the whole system looks from the saw to the steam engine (how the geras are set up etc…)

Don thanks for the info on the horses. Looks like I have some rain coming in on my days off. I should be able to get a lot more done.

I got a little more done to the sawmill. The building is almost done. I also started working on the inside. I started the cart that moves the logs through the saw. Also improved my switch throws by using the barrel bolt idea. Looks ten times better and works great

Roof has to rust once outside.

No need to worry about that as were beyond page 3 so jacking is allowed to the best of my knowledge! If you are serving I also say thank you and "God Bless" ;)

Shawn,
I can go take some shots this Sunday of Williams Grove if needed but it seems like the other guys here got ya’ covered! email me if you want some shots and what you specifically want.

David. Thanks if you can im looking for the gear and pully systems and how they are set up

…winking…

‘Note to self’ page 3 thread jacking rule…

Shawn, the corrugated lines on the cans are substancially different than the first picture. Any good (translation, efficient) way of doing that and getting them flat?
Excellent work!

I was originally going to have the lines going long ways like first picture page 3 but the can was a hair to short. I decided to cut the cans and lay them the way they are. I actually think it looks better and has the old appearce with the waves etc… As for getting the lines flat you can probably take a hammer. The lines will still be their but just flat. I just use a can opner to get the bottom of the can off. then I cut the can at the seam. To flatten the can I just step and jump like a mad man LOL

I also changed the wheels on the cart. I had an old lionel car broke. I used the metal wheels to replace those plastic ons in the picture.

Nice touch on the roof change. Any progress on the donkey engine?

I have some plans that were e -mailed to me but have note started it yet. Now Im working on the log carrier/cart and the track for it to run on. Today is a rainy day so might start fooling around with the steam Donkey.

I started doing the track work for the cart. I got the basic frame done. Still have to add side beams and build it up to the proper height I need. I also changed the wheels to metal o gauge. The cart was a tad to wide so I made the width smaller.

Not a problem whenever you can get it. The weather has been too nice the last few days to stay indoors and build.

I finally got some more stuff done after a hard week of loosing my dog (got hit by a car :frowning: ) I started fooling around with the sawmill outside. I put a paver stone down as my base. The cart and track seemed a tad bit to wide so I decided to make it a little smaller. Made a big difference. I also started to gather up my materials for the saw and steam donky. I hope to start that project soon. My goal is to have it done before the snow comes. Winter time is the best time to cut trees for the KMRR. Now the stuff just has to sit out for a few weeks to get weathered nice.
