LIVE FROM TULSA...It's the 2017 NGRC!!!!

I know there was a lot of interest in getting pictures and comments from those attending the ECLSTS I hope there will be similar enthusiasm for the NGRC. This is where you will find that info. I will try to post the latest everyday. I encourage the other LSC attendees to do the same either in this thread or one of their own.

I am pulling chocks at 04:00 Sunday morning and heading East. Topaz is not coming. She informed me this morning that she had her bags packed and would help with the driving. Of course I had to tell her no. She can’t drive a stick shift and well… she’s a cat so her legs won’t reach the pedals.

She flipped me the bird and stomped off to sulk muttering something about stupid humans and why does she bother owning one, etc. etc…

For those attending, the plan is still to meet up in the lobby of the Renaissance hotel at 7:00 pm Tuesday evening. I will be the sad caveman still holding out hope for the Texas Rangers to make the playoffs (although that ship is sinking fast). See you there!

Friday July 7th

Mission check on all the stuff I will need:

Three boxes of vehicles for the “1/20.3 Vehicles” clinic.

One big box of people for the “1/20.3 Figure” clinic.

One box of miscellaneous for the “Customizing Vehicle and Figures” clinic.

…and this. Wonder what is hiding in there. It’s not making meow sounds so it is not Topaz. Must be something for the contest. More to come on that subject.

Now to get the Home Depot Assault Vehicle (HDAV) ready for the trip and hope all of this fits with the half cab on.

  • Fuel for me and the HDAV. Water, soda and unleaded gas.
  • CDs with driving music: Buddy Holly, Willy Nelson, Fun, Pink, Fleetwood Mac, Jackson Brown and Tom Petty…that should do it.
  • Maps of Texas and Oklahoma, because I am a low tech guy and it is pretty much I-40 to the turnpike at OKC. Oh! money for the toll.
  • Itinerary with junk food and toilet stops from Albuquerque to Tulsa. Baby wipes because IBS always makes driving long distance a pleasure.
  • Clothing, toiletries and my Texas Rangers hat, because real fans are fans even when your team is loosing.

Just over 36 hours and it will be time to blow this popsicle stand and head East.

Please Boomer, for all things right with the world, please tell us you forgot to type Floyd

Hey Now!

Pink is a high energy hot Punk chick who is just old enough to be a young trophy wife without being mistaken for my daughter…

Hehehhehe before her it was Joan Jett (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

We now return this thread to it’s original intended purpose. <<<<<

Damn Straight!!!

We’re all kindof going crazy here in Tulsa!

See you all next week.

If you haven’t registered yet, registration is still open, though the tour buses, the train trip, the bus to OKC, the Ice Cream Social, Barbecue and Banquet are all full.

Saturday July 8

Not much left to do here. Got my bags packed… oops better check for stowaways!!!

Yep just as I suspected…one little tortoise shell tabby trouble maker trying to get on board.

Had just enough room in the HDAV to cram in Bupp’s Fireworks for the LSC Drag and Brag (Southwest Edition) Tuesday night. Hope you are all bringing something as well.

Only 14 hours to go time!!!

Sunday July 9th

Running A Little ahead of schedule this morning. Loaded up but looks like I have to check for stowaways again… Topaz does love a good road trip!

Cat removed. Whoo that is one unhappy kitty.

LSC I am go for launch!..next stop, the planet Tulsa.

I thought an analogy to the space shuttle would be appropriate since the HDAV gets about the same mileage. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)

Stopped and had breakfast in Amarillo. What-a-burger as planned. Took this pic of the HDAV in front of a bunch of wind turbines east of town.

Fuel stop in OKC and then on to the turnpike… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-frown.gif)Not a tourist friendly experience. They have two kinds of roads in Oklahoma, public and toll… in New Mexico we also have two kinds of roads, dirt and mud.

In the end it all worked out. The HDAV on the ground in Tulsa. You notice I brought a sample of said mud. A gift from the people of NM to the people of Ok.

Going down to get registered for the convention. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-smile.gif)

Inside the hotel…nice digs!

Registrations is open!!!

You “stick in the mud” types are officially missing all the fun.

Does Tom have shoes on? Thanks for the postings and pictures.

Boomer heads home :frowning:

I am not going on the A & M trip. Unless they are going to let me drive it I don’t have much interest in riding on a train. I much prefer seeing them run and play in their natural habitat… Hopefully some of the folks who do go will post some pics.

(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-yell.gif)(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-yell.gif)(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-yell.gif)regretfully I must say something negative about Oklahoma.

Checking some restaurants for dinner plans and thought I would sample the local BBQ. As you all know food and I are old friends and I seldom meet a plate I do not like but in my search I found this. Not at one BBQ place mind you but at many. Apparently this is a thing here.

You see it? Right there in the middle of all that BBQ and fixins goodness is a big thick slice of…

GACK UGHHHH… BBQ bologna!

What is wrong with you Oklahoma…that looks like a cross section of a dachshund? When Spam has a nightmare this is what it dreams of.

I think this may be the first ever documented case of BBQ abuse. Please don’t anybody try to defend this you will only encourage it. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif)

That’s truly hideous. I wouldn’t be caught dead at a dinner table in Oklahoma.

Mmm, that reminds me, I haven’t had dinner yet.

Be nice. When I was a kid, sometimes the only meat we had was bologna. One learns to get “creative” with it.

You guys must have been rich!

We used to wish we had bologna!

Joe, well…

I wasn’t rich. In fact, once I walked away from a fruit stand empty handed, because I couldn’t afford one apple. I was 11 or 12 at the time, and I would have killed for a Klondike bar, a Snicker’s bar, a Hershey bar…

I am so glad those days are behind me.

I’m not really understanding the naked guy next to the oil derrick and how that pertains to the convention but perhaps I have overloaded on Miles Davis music tonight.

Poor? I can tell you exactly what an oatmeal sandwich tastes like for Christmas dinner.
