LGB Prices at Ridge Road

Refer Ridge Road Station for prices on selected LGB items, reduced to below 2006 ‘firesale’ levels. Some bargains available.

Still looks pretty pricey to me…guess I’m still just too poor, I wont consider it a firesale till I see them on sale at Marshall’s.

Slim pickings, but I’m already picking!

Can’t find any sales price on the website. Those are the prices they’ve always been.

Well,
some are definately hard to please - CP 50-ft boxcar, $54.00, Eiser-Koller container car, $38.00, Coke tanker, $54.00, Coke grain hopper, $54.00, Rio Grande 40-foot boxcar with metal wheels, $71.70, ‘Sugar Daddy’ 40 foot boxcar, $27.70, Laughter boxcar $39.90. There are a few others. You may not like these, but in the case of the Sugar Daddy it may be repainted (as I have done previously). The Eiser-Koller car was listed at a reduced price of $50.00 for around 12 months, but then rose to around $90.00 to be reduced to current $39.00. The laughter boxcar is still listed on many sites for over $90.00. The Rio Grande boxcar is reasonably difficult to obtain and is usually around $85.00. The CP 50-footer is generally around $88.00, so $54.00 is a reasonable reduction. The Genesis are listed around $275.00, a reduction from usual selling price of around $330.00. The Chicago tram is reduced below its usual $430.00 price tag.

The Pennsylvania pulp wood flatcar is reduced to around $60.00. NYC and CP ore hoppers at $47.00 is not a bad price for a single item, not packaged in sets of four items. Ore hopper sets reduced below the usual selling price. Morton Salt centre flow hopper at $61.00. All American mainline rolling stock reduced to $71.49 (usually around $87.99). Many have been complaining that American items are not available. Well some are and at reduced prices. I look outside the square and buy what I can repaint or modify to my liking. You can lead a horse to water ........

Tim, when yer poor, a Ferrari on sale… is still a Ferrari

Vic,
for a short while (when Silvergate thought that they had cornered the market in available LGB American mainline and prices spiralled upwards) then it looked definately like LGB was being priced out of the hands of mere mortals. However, the current Ridge Road prices are back to a little below ‘normal’ and in some cases, on selected items, a ‘steal’. The Sugar Daddy boxcar at $27.23 is a bargain. If one requires a repaint then cost of paint and decals needs to be factored in, but at present, 40-footers are in big demand when surfacing on eBay and generally for domestic shipping only. The CP 50-footer at $54.00 is a good price, as is the Morton Salt centre flow hopper at $61.00. $71.49 for the rest of the American standard gauge rolling stock is also quite good, with many dealers still selling for $87.00 - $109.00 each.

Tim-

Any guesses or insight as to the how Ridge sees the consumer’s image of LGB as related to the pricing of its LGB products? My thought is the “collector” consumer is not the focused target as LGB products may not have the “in” demand that was there when the company image was abound and still in full force.

What’s your analysis?

Wendell

Wendell,
the items being ‘clearanced’ are those originally shipped in mid-2006 and wharehoused. For some months supply ‘dried up’ due no doubt to the actions of its distributor and the decision to self market the product itself through a newly established distribution company. Prices at the distributor site were hardly likely to cause a landrush and so stock continued to languish. Possibly a need to clear stock saw the company offer the items to the market at a reduced price, particularly those slow selling items, like licenced brandname items and unpopular roadnames. The remaining items now on sale are simply garden fodder and in no way could be considered collectables. The days of ‘collectables’ has passed and prices realised on eBay of late see Bachmann products selling at higher prices than equivalent LGB items. In Australia it is difficult to sell a LGB item for more than a similar Bachmann item. Some these days actually see Bachmann as not only better value but better quality.

Tim,

Today was another “those are the last ones” day   :). I also had a brief look at rolling stock, a case of severe shrinkage (at least in the RhB section).

Who cares, eh! Just as long as it's red and goes Vroom, Vroom.  Headturner a few days ago: very nice red Lamborghini.

HJ,
if you trip over in the rush for RhB items then you will have footprints up your back. RhB has been very scarce for quite a while. Last offerings were probably the gondolas you purchased a long, long time ago.

Tim,

My salvation: I model a specific era, won’t be joining the mad rush for all that modern stuff.

Tim, I guess I didn’t look close enough!

They’re short a few more ore cars today!
I’ll just repaint 'em! (Naw, I’ll run 'em like they are. The numbers are so little, can’t read 'em anyway)

Hi Tim, I think Ridge Road is offering the "lower" prices because they can see the writing on the wall, that Marklin is not going to be a player in the US for the next couple years and that LGB remnants are just that, remnants, and that they want to clear stock that can no longer be replaced so they have made the decision to try to move that old product out by lowering the prices a bit to tempt buyers to make room for new product that can be restocked. Makes sense, clear remnant products faster for the most they think they can reasonably get. Bet alot of what gets sold get relisted on Evilbay at the new stupid high "Buy It Now" prices commanded there.

Too bad all those things are far too big for my tiny layout, so while I’m sure all of these will all find nice homes somewhere, it wont be on my layout, most of LGBs stuff that would be good for my layout has been long gone, banished to Ebay and the loony tune prices commanded there. The one item I do like, the D&RG #50 switcher, at $175, is still $125 more than I can easily sneak by the budget manager, besides I just added 2 more HLW Mack bashes to the projects list. Even at the new lower price, the LGB cannot compete with with the HLW bashes economicly not to mention the bash fun factor

Vic,
one can always tell when Trainworld has had a sale on LGB items, as lots of LGB ‘Buy it Now’ specials start appearing on eBay. The best con trick I saw was the Pennsylvania starter set with the Forney, boxcar and coach, sold minus track and packaging from Trainworld for $329.99. Next day, numerous Forneys were listed ‘Buy it Now’ on eBay for over $329.99. The sellers then listed the Pennsy boxcars and coaches and made a killing. Even the Sugar Daddy boxcars are listed on some eBay sites for $99.00, when one is able to pick them up at Ridge Road for $27.50.

Thus proving both the old adage about a sucker being born every minute, and my new adage, "Every sucker flocks to ebay."

Vic, I really think you should bite the bullet and get an LGB #50, I bought one from Ridge Road Station last month for $US216.00, which I then thought to be a bargain, s**t happens. But it is a great little locomotive, would love your small radius curves. Go on be a devil!

Wow, my wallet did not need this bit of news! Thanks for the info, picking up a CP box and the Morton hopper. I really wanted the hopper and like the price.

ebay isn’t bad if you watch it and don’t get involved in a ‘bid war’. Recently picked up an rhb resturaunt car with 4 people for $145.00 in primo shape (buy-it-now). Of course I am a bit of a neophyte so it’s possible this is too high a price, really not sure of values.

Tell SWMBO "The devil made me do it!" or even better, present it to her as a birthday gift! Caution: this latter may not work if

a) she’s over twentynine

b) stopped counting

c) was born on Feb 29th
