Large Scale Central

Lets see your private cars!

A while back I bought a pair of Aristocraft Sierra cars, one was a combine, the other a coach. I plan to hack them up and build a lengthened private car from the parts. I also plan to remove the closed curtains on the windows and put in a full interior. I could use some inspiration from y’all, so please post pictures of your private cars, any era, steel or wood. or any good prototype pics of wood private cars would also be great. I look forward to seeing what y’all have come up with.

Aaron here are my coach and combine. Detailed build logs can be found in the Passenger Service section of my website. Follow the link in my signature block at the bottom of this post.

I bet you would really like to see my parlor car…so would I. Maybe I will get motivated on it this summer. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-smile.gif)

Aaron, I made a full train of bashed Sierra cars. You can sometimes get good deals on these cars. Road name doesn’t matter if you are only going to cut them up. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif)A fun project.

Hope you like 'em.

Ok DT …explain why you have hidden this car from us!

Edit: cause I jacking up Aaron’s thread on page 1

GI Joe and Mr T are not turn of the century passengers !

I didn’t hide it. I’ve posted pics of it before. That is my ghetto baggage car. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-sealed.gif)Made from leftover combines. At one time I must have had 6 of those suckers.

Dennis

Guess I need to lay off the crack pipe then cause I missed it posted in the past!

Here’s the Private Car I scratch built a few years ago.

Doc Nice … looks better than my house!

Dang, I was hoping to get mine up before Doc did…his looks great; and looks even better in person.

Here’s mine. Not really a “Private” car, more of a Parlor Car. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif)

And up at Doug’s in Canada, behind my Mikado.

was hoping to see something like this. Mine will look very similar, though mine may be a combine/observation as those are the cars I have right now. I do hope to get a few more and make a train of cars at some point, but for now one will be good

This is amazing work Doc!! this car was the inspiration to want to do a private car at some point, just have to find the build thread

Bruce, yours was the other car that got me motivated to build one when I seen yours in person. At some point I would like to build a car from scratch from wood, but for now the bashed sierra cars will have to do.

Mine isn’t exactly a private car, but is used by the rail boss to live in as he inspects the railroad. Inside are all the comforts of home.

Aaron, The original thread was on MLS. They are gone now. If you want, I can email you the complete build in a >1 megabit file. Let me know.

Doc

Here’s EBT #20. Made from an MLS Carter Bros Coach kit (you can still get them - cheap euro - from Lasergang.)

This is the interior - pretty close to the prototype layout. EBT was only 30 miles long, so no need for a bedroom!

You guys are making me want to do interior in one of my cars !

I think cars and buildings look better with some kind of interior, but, unless it’s a display model, or right up in the viewer’s face, I am not going to go crazy detailing an interior that won’t be seen. I put in enough so that it doesn’t look like an empty box.
