Let's see how old you are.....(remember these....?)

Cool.

My older brother drove an early Cobra roadster for a wealthy friend. One day when I was about 16 they made the mistake of leaving it in our driveway with the keys in it when no-one was home. My best friend and I couldn’t resist taking it around the block. I’d never driven anything with that kind of power before. I punched it leaving a stop sign and was approaching 100 in a couple of blocks. I had to wash the driver seat when we got it home.

My first car was a 56 Volkswagen that I customized some with flared rear fenders, big tires and a Porsche motor. I blew up the Porsche in only a few weeks and then began a conversion to a front mounted Pontiac V8 on a shortened Pontiac frame. That project was never finished, but sold to someone who thought they could get it done.

I never could afford the fancy hot rods but I sure did drool over them. My first car was a '53 Dodge. At one point while in the service I owned a '58 Edsel convertible.

I see vids like that and I feel sorry for the kids today. They have no idea what they are missing! And at times I could just kick myself in the butt for not realizing what we had. We were the generation of kids that had it all…and it’s been down hill since.

My first car was a '65 Mustang. It had an AM radio, 3 on the floor and a 200 cid straight six.

I still have it.

I’m currently looking for a 132 tooth fly-wheel ring gear for it. Anybody have one? I have completely worn out both sides of the original.

Aside from the windshield washer pump, it is still stock.

I paid $400.00 for it in 1971. I think I’ve gotten my money’s worth.

Damn, Steve. You were an old man by the time you got your first car. I’d had a half dozen cars by the time the Mustang hit the showroom floors. I almost bought a brand new '66 Mustang but wound up buying a brand new Galaxie 500 2 door HT…red with black vinyl top. Used my reenlistment bonus.

my first was a 72 Dodge Duster, for $400, Shoulda kept it, they are a sleeper. had a 48 flathead Ford F2, 1942 willys jeep, 80 Triump TR7 convertible, 65 Mustang fastback, and Currently another 65 Fastback 289hipo 4speed with console, allegedlly #50 off the line, but unrestored. I start in the spring.

This was my first car. A 1953 Citroen Light 15.

(Picture from http://www.akvintage.co.uk/webimages) My second car was the 6 cylinder british built version. Not me in pic.

(Picture from http://www.citroenclassic.org.au/Gallery/Concours2007/Awards) I wish I still owned either of them.

That was my first car...

My first anything was a 1960 Studebaker Champ 1/2 ton Pickup. It had a 289, 3 on the floor w/ overdrive, if memory serves. No radio. 2/40 Airconditioning.

We lined the box with something like Visqueen, filled it with water and drove it around town on the 4th of July with swimmers in the back. The rear springs were never the same…

Steve :stuck_out_tongue:

The springs would have been fine if you would have invited mermaids instead of whales.

My first car when I started working was a '55 chevy 2 door sedan. Spent a lot of paychecks on that car. 327cid with a 4barrel Carter carb, 4 speed muncie, bucket seats, roll and pleated interior, '58 chevy station wagon rear coil springs on the front end and 3 extra leaf springs in the back. Friday nites we’d all head into Philly down by the river and drag race all nite on Front st. till the cops showed up. Just about everyone we hung out with had either a 55, 56, or 57 chevy and the ignition keys were all interchangable. Sold it and went to the luxury version. '63 Chevy SS convertible that came originally with a 283, which was quickly replaced with a 327 from a wrecked Corvette. Spen fri and sat racing the hell out of those things and all day sun fixing’em so we could drive to work on monday…then I got drafted and that put a damper on things in a hurry. Last good car I owned and the first brand new, right off the show room floor, was a '71 Duster 340. That was one car I wish I still had…

…mine was a '52 Ford flathead V8…4 door…

Think I saw them in a museum once…

Can’t say my first car was quite that cool. My sister got the cool cars; 70 Nova, 77 Mustang, 79 Firebird… 'course she killed 'em all… Mine was a 1980 Subaru 3-door hatchback; the raw power of a 1.6L flat 4 that could fit in a carry-on suitcase and an interior that you could clean with a garden hose. Solid as a rock, though, and dirt simple to repair when something broke. Can’t say that about anything I’ve owned since then.

Later,

K

You kids just don’t know what you missed…:stuck_out_tongue:

Kids of today talk about the raw power of their first computer… Even my first computer belongs in a museum…:frowning:

Is that the Museum of Antiquities?

That’s about it…:frowning:

I feel like a museum piece, that no-one wants to bother restoring.

So, I’m sitting here waisting (Wasting ?) away; developing into a large pile of bones and warts; waiting for someone to replace me with a newer, female, blond, model from 1999, who still can do a neat twist or three for the viewers.

OK Freddie.

Nice to know you are just an old perv like the rest of us.

Being that may Dad was a hot-rodder and had a garage/shop when I was growing up, there never was a shortage of cool rides in our driveway.
Did I give a rat back then–no!
Now when I see the old home movies, I wish he would have spent more time filming the rods instead of us brats.
Anyway:
My 1st and then in chronological order:
'52 Mercury 2 door HT. Flathead (My brother wrecked it while I was in the Navy.)
'53 Chev Bel-Aire HT.
'54 Ford coupe (1/2 glass top)
'55 Chev 1/2 ton NAPCO Power pack
'54 Ford 1/2 ton
'60 Falcon Sprint
'57 Stude Golden Hawk
'57 Cad Eldorado Brougham (Stainless steel roof)
'65 Ford 500
'68 Old 442
And then I got married.
Gone were the cool stuff, along came Toyota’s, Olds, Fords and Mercedes Benz.
Now that I’m retired, I am going to go back in time and by next summer I should have a hot rod of some kind.
jb

1st car was a 53 Ford Customline V8 Flathead. I remember that car for one reason only. We sprayed the roof Candy Apple Blue. Rest of the body was Maroon. No accounting for taste back then.
