Tomorrow we can go dig in Russell’s shed and see what kind of buildings he has, maybe something is up for grabs.

John, check your email for sneak peek of what I did tonight. Will post here at a later date.

I was told, we need a baggage cart and a pallet jack. so

mike, it’s looking good… Maybe I missed something here, but what’s the sheet that the structure is sitting on??? looks like acrylic, that has been textur painted from what I can tell of in the pictures…

Absolutely correct Andy. 18"X24"X1/4" acrylic from home depot. I used the Valspar rattle can “rock/stone” paint. Comes in three colors. HD again. I like the stability the acrylic gives to the structures and they sell it in a lot of sizes. The AA Citrus Association Packing Plant I built sits on a 3X4 foot piece. Had to go to the plastic shop for that. lucky they are close but it was kind of expensive.

Mike
Looking very good, I like making my bases larger than the structure so details can be placed on the plexiglass, that way you can pickup the building to either
add or fix any of the details and then replace on the layout. Several people place structures on the ground then have to add their details to the ground
Then remove and replace everytime they move the structure in and back out. Thanks for sharing your structure.

I like that idea. And the freight shed..................;)

Mike, thanks for the explaination… I have been using the acrylic, .093 thick stuff, to add weight & support to the Colorado Model Buildings… Cut the acrylic to fit as an inside wall, plus it also makes the window glass… Wife has been using the textured paint, for roofs of houses… It definitely needs to be sealed, if placing outside, or the textured paint will run, when it gets wet…

FYI : I use either .223 or .250 thick acrylic.

All the finishes I use are petroleum based so they are impervious to moisture. On my acrylic bases, I rough up both sideswith sand paper, shoot the underside with dark gray primer and have started doing a light wiping of the topside with MEK. Seems to assist with the bonding action of the paint to the acrylic. I use the Valspar Rock paint on the exposed side. Reason for coating underside is that the rock paint needs a dark undercoat as it gives the finished gravel or dirt a darker hue. I have run countless experiments with this stuff and please don’t get me started on the adhesive and coreplast rant.

Done!

Wonderful!

Looks great.
I like the “L” shape. Too many of my buildings are rectangular and could use some bashing to make them more interesting.
