KD Remote uncoupling

You could Terry, there’s several ways.

I see this for locos. Very cool for cutting off the helper at the top of a grade, etc.

I’m intending on doing this on at least the front coupler and trailing coupler of all my consists.

Actually, since only one coupler needs to be opened (you can see that in their videos), putting it on the coupler at the end of every loco (or consist) will be enough.

Greg

Those uncouplers are pretty slick but way too much for me and probably most of us to consider but it is nice to dream isn’t it? Lets do some math $75 for the car, $30 to upgrade the wheels, $15 for couplers now I will throw those away for this system, times 30 cars on my roster WOW that is alot of dough!!
I think I will keep to my hook and loops and the high tech popsicle stick I use to disconnect!
Still for some of us (the 1 percenters) these new kadees are cool.

100% agreement here, Todd!

It should be the cat’s meow for passenger trains on our RhB since it is point to point. Any passenger train arriving at either end of the line will go through the same routine: train arrives at T (coming from S) , engine cuts off the consist, a different engine picks up the consist and leaves as a new train with a separate train number (going back to S) where the same routine is repeated. To add extra spice mail cars and diners are added/removed at T.
The ZIMO sound decoders can operate 4 servos, two for the couplers on either end and two to operate the pantographs. Couplers with servos required, the rest happens via the existing hardware of the DCC system.

PS and all the work on the freights is done manually, line turnouts, uncouple etc. etc.

What I would like to know is, does this self contained coupler http://www.remoteuncoupling.com/html/11220.htm work like a regular servo.
That is, does it require a standard DP signal such as is used by regular stick type radios. In other words does the Kadee electronics reproduce that DP signal for a servo to respond to?

My question is: If we want to do actual model railroading, then why do we all look for easy shortcuts to accomplish a task performed by an individual??? Real railroads don’t have ““Remote uncoupling””… Someone has to do it…

Because it’s fun, right? Some folks like to handle their cars, and some folks like wireless automata that make it look like there are no giant human hands in the picuture. Heck, If I could get a 3" high puppet to do the work, I’d be all over that!

It's a carry-over from the smaller scales. You should see my friend's - he's the importer/agency for ZIMO in NA - little demo set-up doing the coupler waltz.

Other than that it’s also handy, at least as far as it could/would go on our layout.

… and some guys get a kick out of creating a fully automated railroad, 100% computer-controlled.
To cobble a phrase from Steve Jobs, this hobby is insanely great!
That’s the name of the game, each to his own. I’m the only guy I know who does everything exactly my way.
The only one I really understand is myself. Everybody else is nuts. :P:)

So you are the only sane one?

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

The way I see it, he’s the only one who believes he is sane, the rest of us know that we’re all a bit nuts in one way or the other. :stuck_out_tongue:
