Large Scale Central

Kaskaskia Valley Railway 10th Annual Fall OPs

Looking good there guys, and thanks for the pics Bruce

Thanks for the pics, Bruce. Looks like a good start to the weekend.

We got a few pictures from Saturday’s OPs. Trains are running and people are talking, many of these faces are familiar and have appeared in many pictures throughout the years -

I can’t deny there was a troublesome turnout at the entrance to Consolidated and here Mark Godwin works his charge through with slow orders -

Sigh…sorry Im missing it…but at least there are trains running on the WV&K today too…

Thanks Ric

Noah and I made it Saturday and ran 6 routes before we had to bail. It was a great time as usual and fun to visit with friends. This was our 5th year for Ric’s ops sessions!!!

Well, Unfortunately, My camera sat in the trucks cupholder all weekend, and not a single Pic up at Ric’s was taken… My Apologies…

On the bright side… It was a great 3 days, spent with friends, and running trains… Not to mention the 43 tons of food at both houses, which was ““out of this world””…

I did get a few pics at my house on Friday: Bruce’s train headin into Bluefield across the Hilltop Subdivision Bridge:

Andy,
Funny how you messed up Ken’s pictures
A subliminal message, maybe
Thanks to all for posting the photos. Wish I had been there.
Maybe next year I’ll skip the Spring ECLSTS and try to make one of Ric’s ops sessions instead.

Time for some pictures of the equipment. Here is Bruce and Jean Chandler’s charge, the KVRwy M-7 44 tonner as it is headed for Fiddle with a load of oil from Acorn Oil. On the Main is Jim Agnew’s Rock Island equipment.

The bottleneck of Fiddle is showing as visiting equipment is left on the siding as people are enjoying the game, gone “to beans” or in getting another set of orders. That’s Ken Brunt’s 10 wheeler, with a coach as a caboose. We need to address storage for visiting power.

Here is Aaron Loyett’s Shay passing the new rock work at Pin Oak. You are just imagining that you are seeing that set of knee pads on the rocks.

Andy Clarke’s “Geep” switches Consolidated.

Here is a closer look at Aaron’s 3 truck Shay on the Southern Loop inside.

Jim Agnew’s Rock Island equipment is on the move between Sea Weed Jct. and Sweetwater.

Jane Clarke’s Geep is being turned on the Southern Shop’s turntable, ready for a run.

Here I am working the North Owl’s Bend caboose track.

Jim’s Rock Island power has coal cars on both ends as he works the Coal Turn at Beagle Jct.

Another of Ken’s 10 Wheeler’s sits ready with some cabeese on the Power Siding at Consolidated.

That’s what we have for now. I need to thank every one for a great weekend and a good session, plus all those that helped us get ready and my wonderful bride that kept us all fed, supplied with liquid refreshment and a comfortable crew lounge. For both sessions, we ran 46 trains, moved 159 cars and carried 23,525 tons of commodities and people. It really was a good weekend.

That’s a lot of trains. I think we ran 6 in one day at Bob’s in September and we were exhausted after the last run. Bob also had the problem with power storage hatching plans for adding track beyond the turntable.

That subject actually came up and Bob's solution would work. Space is a bit of a problem, so I'm thinking of a temporary engine service facility, not something permanent with a turntable, but I do like the idea.

Excellent! I personally like this one!

Rooster,

I agree, Jim Agnew’s equipment is always exceptional. Runs good, with Phoenix sound and usually with Airwire control.

We got home yesterday afternoon and we’ve been catching up on everything. We sure had a great time; many thanks to Jan & Ric for hosting the two days at their place, and to Andy & Jane for Friday! Apparently one is supposed to not eat for at least a week before attending one of these events; there was certainly a LOT of food over three days. Consolidated Yard was as busy as ever on Saturday.

Complete with “RubberDuck”

Jean was the engineer as we ran through the yard over to Old State Light.

It was a nice enough day to hold the discussion session outside.

Sunday was also nice, but a bit cloudy. Here Jane works on the ballast before we start a session.

Then it’s back to work in dispatch…

One of our trains had to leave from the Southern Division - which is just a maze of elevated track. Shadow, the cat, likes to sleep up there, but had already been chased away by this time.

It must have been an interesting train over at Fiddle as everyone stops to look.

Meanwhile, back at food central, Ken chows down on some of that Kentucky Fried Rooster…

Back outside, Southern Junction hosts a 3 way meet…

It seemed like a lot more trains this year, and we sure had a grand time.

Some great Pictures, Bruce… Glad to hear you all made it back home safely…

Deep thoughts…perhaps the weight of the world is on their shoulders???

Great pictures Bruce. I will make it out there one of these years

Nice photos Bruce. Looks to have been a good gathering
