Kaskaskia Valley Railway 10th Annual Fall OPs

Don’t know. I do know I didn’t take any, but I think Bob Temper had a camera out. Jan did get some pictures of the “Mylars”, installed on the trailer. That went well, but I think she has copyrighted them for the newsletter. Stay tuned.

I was too busy ““inventoring””, and I also forgot to bring a camera…

Found that wayward flatcar hiding in plain site on the outbound track over the band saw. Shadow may have been laying on it.

shadow was laying up there.... I didn't lift her up, to see if anything was undeer her.... I got scared when she winked.... :)

A couple of weeks to go. Because of the dry weather the leaves have pretty well hit the ground, so I think we are a little ahead of schedule on leaf duty. Weather here has been great and I hope it holds until after the OPs weekend.

Weather holding good for next week’s OPs. We have rain predicted on Thursday, but should be 56 by Friday as a high and warming through the weekend. In the 60’s until then. Lows are in the low 40’s. Nice fall weather for running trains. Fun begins Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Noon. Contact us for info on joining us on the Kaskaskia Valley Railway and the Bluestone Southern Railroad.

Hey Ric, is there a certian day that you are running at Andys then at your place? Is there a schedule?

Tom Huisenga

Usually run at Andy’s on Friday afternoon…after lunch at the Lil Nashville Diner.

Ric’s on Sat and Sunday…

Oh man, I thought this was two weeks away and it’s only a week. Sweet!

Friday afternoon at my house for a run/gathering/Etc, then Golden Corral for supper in O’Fallon/Shiloh… Sat & Sun at Ric’s with the full blown Operating session…

If anyone needs directions to my house, shoot me an Email… Mapquest will get you close… about a mile away, on the wrong road… I’m assuming a GPS will do the same thing, but am not sure…

What he said.

People have started arriving and so has good weather. Forecast for the next 4 days are dry, with highs in mid 60’s and lows in the 40’s. Time to get one more shot at cleaning up leaves. Hope to get pictures posted as time passes. It all starts this morning 28 miles south of here on the Bluestone Southern.

Ric, I’m planning on getting to your place around 10:30 tomorrow. Is that all right or should I wait until noon?

Have fun everybody, and post lots of pics.

Hope all enjoy and remember those of us not in attendence with pics

May the Guru’s of Ops smile on you all. Have a great weekend guys! Wish I could crash the party myself.

Robbie, fine to come at 10:30, but we are just going to put you to work.

Wonderful first day at the Clarke’s “Bluestone Southern”. Got some impromptu “ops” in by placing and exchanging cars at the industry’s and interchanges. I know pictures were taken, however, not by me. Just imagine, good food, great fun and ever improving weather. The evening was spent at Mark Godwin’s HO Illinois Terminal empire and home about 2200 to get some sleep and prep for today. Awoke to fog, probably because of extreme temp changes as today progresses. The high is suppose to be 63 degrees, perfect train running weather.

Lots of fog! Yesterday started off cool and cloudy, but turned into a great day! We got to Andy’s about noon and quickly took a tour. The “cabo” is coming along quite nicely.

Ken ran a load of covered hoppers down to the town, while Doug inspected the layout.

It didn’t take us long to start chowing down on all the great food. Here’s Jean and Jan,with Ric getting ready to join them.

After eating, it was time to hit the tracks again and I did manage to get a shot of Ric working the industrial area.

I ran my Shay down to pick up the covered hoppers left earlier.

I couldn’t couple to them, so I started pushing them back.
