Jon's MIK 2025 - An overnight car for the C.V.S.Ry

Love the AC. I think the rig will need solar panels too!

I left room for them. Not sure I can figure out how to make them believable. Maybe black vinyl behind clear acrylic will at least suggest them. Still on the maybe list.

Ask @manimal about solar panels… I think he used actual solar panels on a recent project. :joy:

Never thought of that. I think I have several of those solar garden lights that I was going to use to light buildings before I decided to use the track as a lighting power buss. More junk inspecting scheduled!

I was gonna suggest the solar light panel. Lol

OK. I’m easy.

I dug out my stash of garden solar lights…

Not really happy with the sizes…

So I decided I’d fabricate some simulated panels using clear acrylic, matte black vinyl and some plastruct angle left over from a bridge project These are Fn3 models of Go Power 200 watt panels…

The trim could have been done better, but I’m OK with it. If you look closely in the reflections, you can see the adhesive pattern of the wrap vinyl

I decided to keep the door I already made and clad it with some of the scribed siding. I used the same siding and stain color to enclose the kingpin area (not pictured)…

Now back to what I had planned for today; light the interior and button up the box.

Dude great job. In this case the KISS method (keep it simple stupid) worked out. Those are simple panels yet look great. Much better than the 1:1 would have. Your concern was my concern when mentioned. They are just gonna be too chunky. Great job.

I think the roof details are done…

I got the fairy light LED string installed inside. It looks pretty good so I buttoned up the box. Before I did, I made an access hole in the bottom to allow switching the lights on/off and changing the battery.

Tomorrow I’ll finalize a few details on the door side, get the door installed and attach the box to the flat.

Moving it right along here ‘Vic’, looking sharp

At the rate your going you will have more than enough time for interior !

I believe all of the “RV” details are done. Not pictured on the back side is the access panel and vent for an on-demand water heater. On the door side to the right of the wheel well is the intake and exhaust for a Suburban propane furnace. To the left of the door is my take on a retro grab handle. It should be rod, and it should have bends, but this will do…

My goal it to spend nothing and so far, other than the replacement hole saw, I haven’t. It’s been a bunch of fun coming up with ideas and scrounging parts. The furnace vents are cut from tinned copper ring terminals mounted in styrene. The grab bar is just small slices of .125 clear acrylic, and the door handle is styrene and paint…

I should have used a different, or less adhesive. E6000 cleans up nice after a short cure from wood, but it eats the paint :frowning: Not going to get that neatness award.

Next up is stairs for when spotted where a platform does not exist. It should be cool as I’m trying to incorporate some neat old hard disk parts!

Mik painted with Q-tips, so I dont think that should count against you in the contest.

I did consider it, and even have the basic layout sketched. That was used for the roof detail placement. The problem with an interior is the way Bachmann attached the bottom. There are six heavy posts running from the roof to the floor. Removing them would require more design time than I wanted to invest.

I did employ numerous Q-tips when painting the black. Not for paint, but to clean up mistakes!

Jon,
Is e6000 like silicon that can be trimmed with a knife after it dries?

Not quite, it’s more elastic. Think rubber cement. I do slice it with an 11 blade then use the point to pull up the excess. I needed tweezers to pull out the strings from the wood front section.

Looking good, Jon. Love the roof details.

My MS Office license that was priced too good to be true quit working after 3 years, so I’m back to old school design. I kinda prefer it anyway. The stairs are designed and all parts cut ready for assembly…

Bill gates is the devil. Lol. I hate the new MS ap subscriptions.

Not true, he painted with brooms.
