Large Scale Central

Its spring time, and boy's fancy turns to... um...

What is this springtime of which you speak?

Chris, those of us who live east of the Rockies in the Dominion are basking in the warmth of the teens centigrade and unfortunately, preparing to cut the grass…the upside is that we get to run our trains in the garden daily…I do hear that the Ottawa canal ice is melting so there is hope for you!

I really miss Calvin & Hobbes! (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cry.gif)

Caleb used to roll on the floor reading Calvin & Hobbes books.

… A boys fancy turns to… Baseball? Trains?? Yeah trains. It was warm today, 49 and the snow has melted enough to expose a few buildings on the layout!

It won’t be long now, maybe another month

Calvin and Hobbes was so good. I have all the books.

the boys and I (girls helped too) re-set a curve today since Thomas and Annie couldn’t handle the R1 very well. Lotsa work to do since Winter has passed!

that wall looks closer than it really is

It is NOT spring. Spring may come in a few weeks, but it is still WINTER.

Projected Low 80’s this weekend seems like spring here.

Well, I have the AC on in my car when coming home, and last weekend, I needed the umbrella up because it’s too hot in the sun to sit outside watching NASCAR and smoking a nice cigar.

We try to send the bad weather to the other states, no charge. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Greg

It isn’t officially spring around here till the ECLSTS…when that gets here then I know it’s spring…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

hiccup…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

hiccup

so that’s how that happens. Hit “post Reply” and you get a “we’re Sorry. we’re having technical difficulties at this time, etc, etc, etc.”

Hit reload and 3 replies show up…mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

Excuse you !

Bheer time…

Chris,

It’s almost a ritual, those West of the big mountains in Alberta/BC like to rub it in. Happened to me too often during my 30 years in Ontario, but I found a fix: I moved out West.

But unlike those guys in the Lower Mainland and out on the Island (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)I still refrain from rubbing it in. Not because I’m such a nice guy (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-innocent.gif)(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif), rather for the simple reason that I really like four distinct seasons, including Winter with snow.

BTW it’s Spring Break in the Vancouver region, but how could I tell? A lot of the XC skiiers from the Lower Mainland are currently camped out at Sovereign Lake and Silver Star. There’s not even enough snow out on the Coast to slip on e.g if it should freeze overnight, never mind ski on. That’s the other side of the coin. March has skipped in like a carefree lamb; we’ve had a couple of days of joyous thaw. And a nail in the van’s tire this morning (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-frown.gif); fortunately, our neighbourhood garage fixed that in a hurry.

However, a March that begins happily usually is reserving a late punch to whup the unwary. So call me gloomy; I ain’t putting the snow shovel away or changing to summer tires yet (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Nothing to do with gloomy, I call that xx years of Ontario experience. Township I lived in for 18 years the roadies took off the plows at the end of March and remounted them at one point during April; almost without fail. Those were the local yokels who certainly should have known better.

Since I plan to attend Super Train in Calgary, the snows aren’t coming off 'til after the show … because of the snow.

That show used to be held in February, after a few surprises they moved it to April. Guess what, two years ago there was a whopper of a snow storm on Saturday, not bad on Sunday and glorious weather on Monday, on the way back to the Okanagan … perfect video weather!
