Large Scale Central

It wasn't quite April 1st

… Mar 28th I was due for the stress test on the tread mill - to find out after a year of complaining why I’m short of breath. Turns out I’ll be going in for a valve job i.e. aortic valve replacement. The cardiologist says I’ll be good as new - a very scary proposition.

Right now I’m on standby i.e. I get daypasses from the hospital, in clear text I get my own home cooked meals and the time to do at least some of the stuff that needs doing. Could be another week until the surgery.
BTW in best Alfred Neumann fashion my attitude is still “Who, me worry?”

What are they going to use to grind the valve?

We’ll keep you in our prayers.

HJ, I’ve been wondering where you have been lately. Keep your spirits up and I hope all goes well with the ‘valve job’ (V-eight or In-line six?)
Get well soon and make sure you have a laptop for your hospital stay to keep us posted.
Regards, Randy

HJ,
Been there, done that.
Was back at work 30 days to the day.
I hear they can go through the wrist now instead of sawing you open.
Done in Europe, but not yet approved in the US.

Here ya go

Do you get to keep the old valve as a souvenir?

Is it a pig valve? I will be having the same type of operation in another 2-4 years. Best wishes.

Hope all goes well HJ. I’ll keep you in my thoughts

Hope all goes well H.J

alles Gute, Hans!

Just make sure the valve is new, not just re-ground

All the best. By summer you should be ready to enjoy the work of building your RR.

Good luck, young fellow…

Fr.Fred

My mother will need this too within the next two years and there is a hospital locally (an hour away in the Buffalo area) that does this type of surgery laproscopically with a small 1" incision in your side to access the heart. Found the bad valve while doing prep work for the lung cancer surgery last fall.

Good Luck HJ! See you back online soon!

Chas

Have been and still working, (almost 5 years now), with a friend that owns and operates a local hobby shop.

On Mar 2nd, at 68 years old, he had a (pigskin) valve replacement done as well as a bypass. Seven days later he was home.

Fourteen days later he’s back at the shop going strong (within restriction boundarys) and getting stronger everyday.

Figure that in 2-3 months time one would never know he had it done.

With todays medical technology you will do just fine.

            Best to you,
                              Dick

HJ,

Sounds like a plan, make it work.

Father, help HJ with his heart valve replacement.

Surgery happend exactly a week ago, we came home yesterday. According to the surgent everything went extremely well, none of the complication that could have snuck up - honestly, I don’t know, they wouldn’t let me watch. Got the valve of my choice - after doing the research - which is the mechanical valve from On-X

BTW the worst of the ordeal was the soreness right after the op, they really must strap you to the op-table something fierce. That along with all the weird hallucinations - unlike some on the forum I’ve never done drugs  :stuck_out_tongue:  - great inspiration for some of my drawings a bit down the road. Since I already dream in technicolour it couldn’t get much more vivid … but waking up to check if this was really happening and getting the quick shift of scene to the psychedelic lightshow was a bit much.

Anyway … it’s now back to getting well, fit and whatever else comes to mind. On the way to dinner Sunday night - those were a long two blocks to walk from the hotel - I told my equal half that I’d be at the 2015 Engadine Ski Marathon - fit and mean.  My very own 70th birthday present!

Hans glade your doing good.
did you write down the names of those drugs? Could be handy for the rest of us.

Welcome back …

Hans glad your doing well

Welcome back HJ
