Installing ladder track

Your temperature spread is very similar to mine. Usually our last frost occurs in April. This year we had freezing temperatures pretty late into May.

Ralph,

There is one major difference: we have very low humidity and that’s just peachy by me. 30 years of *&#$@ Southern Ontario summers were plenty for me.

My humidity here is not too bad. Now when I lived in Michigan summers were much more humid and miserable. Winters were more miserable also.
As for the dry heat being OK, I spent about 12 years in Texas and the summers were very miserable until I moved to Galveston. The sea breeze was a major relief.

The upper track is in past the waterfall tunnel location - easier to do ahead of putting the rest in. The opposite is true on the lower portion where the concrete blocks are in place.

HJ,

Looking really good! Keep the pic’s coming.

Oh my achin Back ! I did’nt know it got that hot up there. There really is global warming !

I am about to start my outside track. I saw an article a year ago using another material other than TREX for the sides of the ladders, but can’t find the article. I believe it was a recycled plastic. I would appreciate anyone who can steer me in the right direction. Nick Jr

Nick, I used 1x2 plastic from Home Depot and Menard’s.

Been very happy with the way it came out, easy to work with smoothed curves.

Wow! Don, that really looks nice.

Rick,

That’s a old photo, mainline and sidings are done. Just need it to stop raining so I can start on landscaping.

…grinning…

Don & Craig, have you had any warpage since it was installed. Ken, that is exactly the article I was looking for, thankyou. Nick Jr

Anytime!..

Step by step by step. Got cracking right after the storm went through and finished the planned amount just before it started to rain. Sheer luck, sheer luck.

The temp end of line for this year is over by the blue wheelbarrow. Slight mod will be building a curved turnout for the quarry spur, it would have worked with the standard turnout but it would have looked like a “ahhhh must be Snap-Track” make it fit job, certainly not what I’m looking for.

Whose track are you using? (or did you mention that before and I missed it)? I’ve had to make up turnouts myself to fit in odd places:

Nick, Sorry for the late reply, no warp-age. It has stayed nice and straight. Been very happy with the way it came out. I would use this system again if I ever rebuilt.

My ladder track has been down for over a year, and I havent had any warpage or anything, either. I do envy you guys that can just pound a stake into the ground. Can’t do that in the glacial till that passes for my lawn. Gotta dig every hole.
