Large Scale Central

Inspection Train

Newly out-shopped 2-8-0, still sporting most of its DRGW paint scheme, simmers in the sun with its caboose, waiting for orders to allow it on the main line for a shakedown and inspection.

Running downhill from Burke, the train passes over a large fill

Heading into a cut just west of Williamsport

Passing out of Williamsport, the train enters Radder’s Cut

Just past the switch for the Pearce Branch, the train heads downhill past McGillicutty Creek

Heading over one of two bridges entering Majestic

Great pictures Bob, what modifications did you make to the loco. I like the tender change.

Chuck

Good lord, lots of them. Lowered the tender on the trucks by about 3/8". Added an air tank, and huge hungry boards. Removed the toolboxes, and used one of them on the front pilot. Moved the cab back about 1 1/2", swapped around the domes, lowered the floor of the cab. Added some piping around the air tanks. Er…probably more than that, too.

Edit: I made a mold of the bolster while it was still on the tender frame. Once dry, I cut the old bolster off, and cast new ones in resin. A bit of work with the belt sander found me a good height, and I used liberal amounts of epoxy to attach them.

comparing these pics with the older ones, you sure changed something in the last months.
in the last pic - how steep is the loop?

The loop is about a 2 % grade. We tried like heck to keep everything below 2% when we rebuilt.

Looks real good Bob. BTW, also, what dia. is the loop?

hm, if I had to guess, Id say about 15 feet or so? Never measured it.

Guess we’ll have at least 2 Connies running this weekend, maybe 3 if someone else brings one (Bruce, maybe?)

Cool!

Railroad looks great Bob. Is there a story behind how places were named? If so, save it for the weekend, there’s been enough fart jokes running through my head already :o

We coulda had 4 if I had gotten around to installing the RC gear in mine. I have all the stuff except batteries, just never had time to rig it up. IF (notice the size of the if) I get motivated to pack it up tonight I have Dizzy rigged for an RC trail car and have a quick-and-dirt trail car rig in a gondola.

I’m using Accucraft couplers. I know Bruce does too. What do you guys run?

Do tell! ;)

Bob it looks great and its good to have the boss running trains again.

90% of my stuff is Accucraft, also. Hopefully all at the right height!

Your railroad is sure looking great Bob. An operator’s delight too I bet. Very nice work on the engine too. If I was closer I’d crash the party & then head up north to bore ol’ Fred and maybe Bruce & Ken on the way.

Very nice!

I use Kadee's............

Looks great. Layout has come a long way.

The layout is looking great. Have a great weekend running.

In answer to thecoupler question. I use Kadees. I got hooked on them in my HO days.

I really like them because all my trains can play nicely! And they have very helpful customer service!

Bob, nice ride… railroad looks to be coming along fine…
