Great looking locomotive. The layout is progressed quite a bit since I was there in the spring.

Bob it sure looks diff since I was there!
Love the McGillicutty Creek! LOL
Sean
The tree you trimmed is right where it starts!
Bob,
Do you have a track plan that is capable of being put on here?
Hm, nothing yet, but Ill whip a rough one up.
Here’s a rough track plan. The red dots indicate an industry. Obviously, not to scale. Lots more track to be built at Pearce, and another siding at Majestic.

Williamsport Pa was at one time a major importer of Redwood on the east coast from the way I understand it?

So this is Majestic

and this is looking at it from the another direction. What is the mine head in the front of the picture?

And what is the industry at the other end of the tail track marked by a dot? What are the rules to switch Majestic? So where is this turntable and yard? Burke? The look on Bob’s face shows he’s tired of answering my questions?

Any pictures of the yard at Williamsport? Hmm, why did that one picture get bigger?
Ric, here’s a shot of Williamsport on the left, and Burke Yard on the right. The turn table is not yet connected.

And, one looking from the reverse direction…
Thanks Bruce. So what are the industries at Williamsport? I see pipe, where does it go or come from? Basically, Burke is laid out a little like the yard and turntable on the Jackson and Burke? But more divided like the IPP&WRR at Craig Leigh? Is there an interchange track with the outside World? Is that Pierce?
This is great, always like the philosophy or reason for what is happening?
Ric,
As I recall, there’s the pipe industry, a coal yard and freight house. When loaded, the pipe gons require idler flats at each end. They typically go from there to Burke Yard and return as empties. The coal comes from Majestic, and empties return to there.
Bob’s intention is to make one side of Williamsport look like a dock, so I think this could also be the future interchange.
One thing we discussed was the idea of a through freight car in a train. Thus, instead of leaving with just one of two cars, you could add a car or two that would not be switched at all, but would travel the length of the railroad. This would give you an excuse to have some cars for which you don’t have any industry, such as reefers or stock cars.
Very cool! Maybe Williamsport will also have a car ferry, I think Bob and I have talked about that.
Great looking Railroad and very nice track plan
Ric, This is Majestic Coliery. In the foreground is mine #2.

The industry at the end of the track is the company store, though it’s not built yet.
Here’s a shot looking towards the company store, which has 2 cars on the siding there.
There’s a switchback that goes down to mine #2 on the right. This can be some interesting switching. When Bob and I were here, we had to move the two cars from that siding to make room to pull cars from mine #2. We started off with both trains switching Majestic, but later decided that it would be better for just one train to do it. We have used Majestic as a meet.
It would be much more interesting/confusing/creating a traffic jam, requiring more coordination from the train crews to have Willamsport to Burke run switch out the Coliery, and have the Burke to Williamsport switch out mine #2 & the company store… Neither train would be doing each others job, and it would give a purpose to having a yard in both towns and for thru freight from one yard to the other…
the devil made me type that…
So each town has a passing siding, except Pierce? We have that in Clinton County on the CSX main. Two towns have stub sidings, but you have to go down the track to run around. Makes for interesting switching. So right now there is an Eastbound and Westbound way freight? What is the reason for the proposed thru freight? When would it run? Does it have a priority? Does eastbound have priority over westbound? Does that happen in New England?
Ric,
You’re correct, Pearce does not have a passing siding. Currently, there are only two trains each day, one East, one West, though when Bob gets more cars I suspect he could go to 4 each day.
That wasn’t a proposed thru train…it was just the idea of a freight car or two going from one end of the layout to the other without being switched. As if the layout is really part of a larger railroad. For instance, Bob has a bunch of stockcars, but no stockyards. So, he could add a stock car to the train to fill out a short train. It would just be towed around, but it would allow one to simulate heavier traffic.
What’s with Jon standing on things? When he was here on the CVRR he stood on my bridge, now he’s standing on Bob’s mine! What’s up with that Jon?
