Joe, I completely agree with Jake - It’s not at all necessary to have the newest and latest in RC products or in any other item either! We start that and before we know it we’re on a roundabout that never quits. Whatever we buy that’s the newest thing today, will be old news in a few months. And as for that poison little word “should” HA! I scoff at it!
Good enough is good enough…
My two cents, FWIW. Enjoy wotcha got. Cheers.
Jake, that’s what I intend to do for now. I ordered some parts from Del Tapparo and if the people at All-Battery respond, I’ll soon have a 14.8 volt 2600mAh battery, which should fit nicely in my Bug Mauler tender.
I am still trying to decide on the best chuff setup. At present I am using the drum affixed to the loco’s drive axle, but after reading Kevin’s comments, I’m thinking I should go back to using a tender-axle-actuated trigger. Unfortunately, I peeked in there and found that while the magentically actuated pickup still exists, I cut the wires (pretty short, dammit) when I switched to the loco’s chuff drum.
As for dual operation, I doubt if I’ll be guest running my loco. Besides, if I run my loco on a layout that uses track power, as long as I can control my battery powered loco, what’s the difference? I’m saying this because I hate to complicate what appears to be a simple setup, i.e. battery, receiver, loco, by adding another switch and more wiring.
