I'm so done with winter

Called my buddy in Michigan as I left work at 4pm… the handfree in the car was a bit hard to hear because the air conditioning was handling the 80 degree outside temp.

life sucks, but not today!

After a number of February days in the 60’s and even 70’s (I think it was a record high month in Maryland), we’re getting our cold weather paid back, at least to some extent anyway.

Trees and early flowers were starting to bloom last week, it was great. But the blossoms are dying in the cold now. I read that the big cherry blossom festival in DC may be with trees that are in the same boat: early blossoms that died out. We’ll see. Not sure how it might affect the fruit trees or other crops.

Back in 97, I built my pond in February. There was a week of 70 degree days and I just couldn’t wait for spring. The next week winter returned, and my puppy tried to walk across the frozen pond. She didn’t succeed, the ice gave way and she got an ice cold bath. For the rest of her life, she made sure that she didn’t get too close to that pond.

They forecast up to 12" here, but things are much worse.

As you can see from this picture, the roads haven’t even been cleared. Nobody is going to work today.

Massive drifts have nearly buried some of the residents.

Naturally, schools are closed. In fact they were closed last night way before the record snowfall even started.

There IS a rumor that the shopping malls will be open to give the poor children a place to huddle out of this terrible weather.

The horror!

Looking for the door into summer.

Oh, I’d forgotten that book started this chain of events!

And in other news: The web is back, Suddenlink had become ‘suddenly no link’ and now about 24 hours later is linking again.
Since their phone recording about service outage in our area ended with note that most outages are resolved within two hours it would be interesting to know what had taken it down for almost 24 since here in mid-Missouri we got neither blizzard nor other event yesterday.

We got just a little snow yesterday.

That snow canyon photo is great!

How are those flat roof buildings holding up, literally holding up, under the snow loads?

Understanding the work involved from helping Mike with his layout occasionally, dang I’d like my own garden railway!

Mike and Mary have retired to live the RV life so i’m without an outside RR to participate in.

…We got just a little snow yesterday…

Wow twice as much as say, 1947 Saskatchewan …

p.s. the GN get stuck, so just leave it for the locals to salvage ? (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

What was your total Shawn? According to TV, our neck of the woods topped the Connecticut reports at 20". Not as bad as I expected, but very dense and not easy to shovel.

Yeah Doug, I wonder if maritime salvage rights applied to that situation? (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)

Here’s the view out our front door last evening. The sky looked kinda neat. Sorry for the blurry print.

Not much snow in the end, just slushy-heavy-icy. All’s well.

19.8 was the official. The forecast called for 24-30. We had blizzard conditions for a short while but winds were not as bad. I was expected more snow.

Too bad it wasn’t 19.5 which is supposed to be some kind of mystical esoteric thing according to the paranormal crowd.

22.5" at 7 am today in western NY. It was still snowing so we’ll see what we have when we get home tomorrow afternoon.

Any volunteer shovel helpers?

That ain’t no caboose… Looks like an early Snow Dozer. See where the cupola is at, and those large plow like things under it?

About 17 inches in Phippsburg, unfortunately, I am in Annapolis so Sue had to shovel out! Just a little ice here and plenty of wind.

Ah just a little rain here and most all the snow is melted away. I’m feeling pretty good right now so you boys back in the east jut keep all that white stuff to your self. We’ve had enough of it out here. LOL

Yesterday (Tuesday) it was 88 F here. Today was a bit cooler at 82, but also more humid so it didn’t feel much cooler. But the high pressure system that’s kept us toasty the past few days has finally started to break down and we may get rain again next week.

I’ve been notified by UPS that some packages I’m expecting have been delayed due to the bad weather you guys are getting.

Yea, UPS had the day off here on Tuesday. The mail man didn’t…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

The first year that I lived in beautiful Deer Park, we got 8 inches of snow on May 8, 2002. It ain’t over until all the snow is off 6000 ft Mt Spokane.
