I'm not dead, just woodworking!!!

OK so a few of you guys have been wondering about me. Well I am still kicking. Health wise I am about the same. Waiting on the Neurosurgeon, I see her on the 9th. I have had a few other areas of drama as well so I have been feeling a bit beat up. But I have not been idle. When I feel good I have been making my way out to my shop for some wood working. Its that time of year when I get the itch to make sawdust. I have been making decorations for my daughters wedding in June. I have also been making some projects that I am hoping to sell for “tool” money. Here is a sample of some of my projects.

This bottom one is not finished. It is one of the decorations for my daughters wedding. The shot glasses I make into candles. Its hard to see but they are sitting in a hole in the base. It will have a flower arraignment around it. Making six of these and six of another style. After the wedding we will be auctioning off all of the decorations to raise money for their honeymoon.

Glad to see that you are still on this side of the dirt. Please stay that way.(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)

Could you make these reports a tad more often? We worry.(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-frown.gif)

You know I care!

If that first candle holder is Bloodwood then your tools are shot! That stuff is harder than a wedding night _ _ _ _ _ !

Answer for dad cause he’s slow …ʞuıɹp

Always love your creations Devon. Glad you are finding something to take your mind off life’s troubles. I’ll be thinking of you on the 9th.

Nice work Devon, you’re going to make me want to go out and turn something on the lathe

Very Nice work Devon!.. Hope you are feeling better…

Its actually a piece of that black walnut tree I got. Why the pic came out reddish I don’t know. This was a piece of limb with a knot in it. Pretty piece of wood.

Its that time of year. It seems to be a fall thing for me to clean up the shop and start making saw dust. But I am learning to expand on my materiel base. I have several ideas floating around that will combine wood, metal, glass, plastic, etc. It seems right now I have been bit by candles, kinda girly, but since girls will likely be the one buying my trinkets that probably isn’t a bad thing. Besides you man them up a little by turning them on the lathe or making them out of shot glasses and beer glasses (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif).

There is more to come. I am currently working on a set of three candles that are in miniature pilsner glasses that will be a beer flight. After the wife is done with the smelly stuff they can be cleaned out and used for the hubby’s poker night. I am also recycling a whiskey bottle by removing the label and etching a wildlife scene on it and will turn a custom bottle stopper for it and have a couple of matching tumblers. Thats the two I am working on now.

I am also assembling a vacuum pot. This will be mainly for wood stablization and casting turning blanks but will also serve my train hobby well in adding another dimension to my casting ability.

Devon,

Is this more what it really looks like?

yeah

The latest work. Not wood but glass. It will have a turned wood stopper and four matching glasses.

Very nice! You are very talented there my friend. (https://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)

So here is the completed bottle set.

Here is the maple and black walnut stopper. Who knew wine corks were way larger in diameter than whiskey bottle corks. The commercial bases are too big. So I used the existing cork. Next time I am going to turn down a wine cork and make a much nicer base. The dots circles and dots are a blue colored pencil.

And here is a close up of the moose head on the glasses.

Not sure what I will be able to sell the set for. But I have about $10 bucks into it.
