Large Scale Central

If you hit the Jackpot?

If you hit the Mega millions Jackpot tonight reported to be over 500 million what would you do with all that dough to improve your Train hobby?

Me. Once my heart was restarted and someone picked me up off the floor. I might start looking for a new house with lots of land with soem type of water either a stream or pond then I would look into ride on train options. I would definantly continue in the largescale but it would be large and I would probably want it to be open to the public to help promote the hobby and happiness that trains can bring to all ages. I always thought a greenhouse would make a great place for a club, that way it is indoors but sort of outdoros as well.
I wonder if I could buy the MT Washington Cog Railway if I offered them 100 million ???
What would you do if lightning struck tonight??
Todd

How many days do you have to read what I would do

I’d set aside a nice sum to purchase a ROW or shortline
Consider it money spent. If it brings in a few bucks, all the better

I know a few museums looking for funds to restore steam locomotives to operating condition.

I’d be a railfanning fool, with a nice “varnish” car to get pulled around the country.

I would also do a massive “greenhouse” layout, complete with retractable roof

That’s about it for trains…off the top of my head. I’m sure given a little time, I’ll have a few more ideas
Ralph

I would build an indoor 2 section layout with 1:20.3, 1.29/32,
that would make Tom Millers look like a postage stamp.
And acquire a Ford GT, a few vettes, a Viper, and so on…
The rest would help local charity’s and veterinary schools.

I’ll never tell…

I’d spend most of it on trains, the rest of it I would just waste.

I increased the odds of winning by buying a ticket.

Just like the last time  Ralph

Mine would be similar to Ralph’s. Main difference is that I would like a nice road engine, like a 4-6-2, restored to prime operating condition. AND I’d want the railroad I bought to have enough tangent track so my steamer could really stretch her legs - with me as the hogger.

I wouldn’t be tempted to buy a Viper. My Pilot already has two Vipers on the front Vindshield, and another Viper for the back Vindshield!

Ain’t it fun to dream,
David Meashey

Jackpot is now $640 million and may even go higher
I need to start adding to my list
Ralph

Mine would be total surprise, since I never buy a ticket

BUZZKILLER  Not to worry Bruce. I’ll give you a couple of mine…tomorrow  Ralph

After hiding from the relatives…

Buy a warehouse that had no interior support columns, ceiling at least 30 feet up and large enough to model all of the Colorado/New Mexico narrow gauge to scale. Climate controlled to the extreme to actually re-produce interior weather conditions based upon what time of year we are running in. Maybe even real snow…Yeah I know - extreme. each engine would have a “fireman’s” cam and an “engineer” cam and you would sit in a reproduction of the cab of the engine you are in charge of. 3D screens around so it would look like you were actually in the cab and the view would be exactly what you would see, no matter which way you looked. Course if you wanted, you could actually travel with your train. Burning coal, oil and steam aromas would abound.

Todd: Those are nice ideas. How about a greenhouse over all of Mt Washington?

Or, 1 in 175,000,000  Save a dollar and your odds drop to zero
However, it is MOST LIKELY someone will beat those odds tonight.
It is probably very likely two people will beat those odds tonight. Many of the larger jackpots have 2 winners, due to the large number of tickets sold.
Despite the odds, where else can you gamble a dollar for a possible $640 million payoff

And what are the odds that no-one will win tonight?

Anyway, like Bruce, I never win so I gave up trying/buying. I have other uses for my $. But id someone dropped $640M on my lap, I’d buy the East Broad Top and refurbish it!

That exactly what I was going to day Pete  I’m not sure you could rebuild the entire line for that, but sure could do a nice job from Orby to Mt Union

I’m about 10 minutes from a convenient store in NY state. I might be tempted to put a couple of dollars in the pot for someone else to win !

Pretty slim. This is the highest jackpot ever. I heard they've already sold 1.5 billion dollars in tickets. As this far exceeds the possible number combinations, somebody should have a heck of a Friday night :D Ralph

:D I'm willing to bet you can find many more sad, true stories from poor people  Those who couldn't properly handle their lives before, certainly don't do any better after ;) Ralph

It’s fun to dream. Suffice it to say I’d have a lot more time for trains … and maybe branch out into a couple of other scales, even, like 1:1 …
