I have a confession

I want to confess that during the Covid-19 outbreak I have been guilty of hoarding. No I haven’t bought all the TP and hand sanitizer. And I already had 99% alcohol. I have made purchases from Ozark, bought basswood, visited my local hardware store and hobby lobby. I am fully prepared to survive a quarantine. I may not have any food but I need to loose weight anyway. and I might have to use dried leaves to wipe my hind end. But I will not run out of modeling supplies.

Good to read something interesting and humerous Devon. There’s enough doom and gloom around presently. (https://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-smile.gif)

Wow way to go.

My sister stopped complaining about my hording, when I gave her 10+ pounds of rice from my Costco lifetime supply! Hmmm maybe it was the price. (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif)

I don’t want to dismiss the seriousness of the situation but the last few years has taught me levity is a valuable coping mechanism.

Denial is also very underrated. (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif)

Thanks Dev, and good for you. But hording or no hording, we’ll be expecting you to employ all those materials soon, haha!

Indeed, Devon, most of us here know you speak from experience,

No doubt Devon will employ all those materials .He’ll stare those suckers down and speculate on what if’s till he wears them to ruin with the thoughts (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Okay thanks for that. That gave me a seriously good laugh

I’m with you on this. I went and bought spray paint and supplies for a few projects I have been thinking about. Just in case the fun stores close.

Jason

Ive been keeping the family safe by quarantining myself in the shop! And having fun doing it! (Que the evil grin emoji)

I’ll admit I ran around in a Huff last weekend looking for TP, but that was because we only had a couple rolls left, so after some hustle I had 4 packs, but two are for another family member. I got really flustered when I could not find any rubbing alcohol, I needed it for paint stripping. Finally got some. It’s nuts here, they closed our cafeteria at work, so instead of 50 people waiting in line in a big cafeteria their now all crammed into the Subway across the street…yeah I don’t think that’s a good idea. I got a bunch of microwave meals, look like a scene from Alien when you open them, but like MREs are okay taste wise. Don’t know what the next week will hold, heck I don’t know what will happen before this weekend.

kind of a ‘whatever’ situation here in the still frozen north country…at least for me. Grew up on a Alaskan homestead at the very end of the road grid, keeping a few months supplies on hand was SOP. That habit remained even as transport improved; I routinely take advantage of the BOGOF sales and ‘must buy four or more to get his ultra low price’ offers. If need be, I could live a couple months off food on hand, though soup would be the dominant menu item the last few weeks of that. Other folks, though…well, the local Walmart looked like it had been ravaged by a horde of very selective locusts.

Now is a great time to catch up on some projects.

It is funny how many parents are worried about keeping the little ones busy and what they need is a great multi faceted hobby like trains.

I’m employing the hoard of fun. I got my line set up, buildings out, and a test run done in the first few days. Here’s hoping the weather cooperates and I can avoid having to quarantine and sit outside.

The “New, and Improved”, latest crop of parents, were not brought up with hobbies, and have none to share or offer to their latest crop of children. Sad, sad…the new and improve view on life is gadgets, travelling, competion and of course sports, sports, sports…“Hobbies”, what are hobbies, except for old people who just aren’t “Cool”, or “With it”, or whatever the latest no-meaning, trendy adjective is…

Fred Mills

Fred,

I hear you. I am at the tail end of the hobby orientated group of “kids” Its sad that at 50 I am one of the youngest people into trains. It was the same with my model cars. Wood working seems to be a little more cool but not much more. I was a “nerd” for my hobbies in high school. And my kids showed no interest in any of my hobbies. Trains came late, but I was heavy into model cars and wood working from the time my kids were born. Not to mention fishing and hunting. My daughter took up both of those but my son could care less.

And since they are not into it certainly their kids will not be into it. I hope “grandpa” can have some say in it. The number of kids at the train swap is depressing and most are tagging along. Only a few are actually interested. Its to bad.

This statement is not exactly correct Friar, Padre, Father, Taster of Holy Water, Fredrick Mills…what ever NICKNAME or real name you prefer.
