Large Scale Central

I feel so violated!

A diesel powered shay?! Is nothing sacred in this world?

Would it make you feel better if you called diesel what it is. . .fuel oil? Then you can call it a oil burner. Does that help?

Chris, you feel violated??? I feel violated. I don’t have permission to view your photo. Whisky Tango Foxtrot, over. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)

…your CAT scares me!

It is a cruel world out there…

Same here, I’m not worthy.

Hmmmm…wonder why. Will see if i can fix that.

Can you hear me now?

I can see it now. Couldn’t this morning. That’s a much more professional job than I was expecting. Still kind of creepy though. Found another shot of it:

A Shay is a Shay, I guess, no matter how it gets its power, though given that it is West Coast, it might be a Willamette, rather than a Shay. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Diesel mechanical to hydraulic torque converter(?) IIRC, final chain drive to the Shay driveshaft. Innovative!

Could be worse

Well, if they did it right, if there is such a thing, it should have a lot of low end torque.

But, that’s just not right.

Even with BleachBit, I can’t unsee that. Thanks, Vic. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)

Hmmmmmm…Another use for one of my Bachmann Center Cabs. I just need a shay. Hmm…

it has a Cummins engine, not known for torque, Caterpillar engines had better low end torque, but with gear reduction it should move anything they need. Finally a Shay type I like.

Actually I kinda like it.

I only had issues with the Cummings not having enough low end torque once. But then tractor trailers aren’t supposed to weigh over 100,000 pounds, so I cant complain. OTOH, my dispatcher was rather upset when I told him that I had 69,990 pounds of steel on the deck.

I like it!! Like John says," You can find a proto type for anything."
