Large Scale Central

I am reminded of Red Dwarf

Looks like we may have some peace and quiet with the new “regulations”.

Ah, sleep…

Recall the first episode of Red Dwarf, and Rimmer’s insistence on writing up Lister…and the comment from the senior Technician…

OK then , can we have a survey to to find out "WHAT MFR "
will be tied to the whipping post , if the bankrupt one does not resurface , or dies on the post ?

Based upon what qualties or lack of , will the decision be made for who next , will be the bad mfr of LS

I like my Hartlands products , and have been buying more of lately , made here in the USA , but I fear that because of the lack of scale , details , support , paint schemes , etc , that my current favorite mfr , will be hounded and flogged and mockery made of them ?

Aristo Craft
Accucraft
AMS
Bachmann
Buddy L
Hartland
Lionel
MTH
USA trains

Who will be the underdog ?

Dennis,

I’ll vote for “Buddy L” and whatever anonymous slave labor factory in the PRC they came from.

Dave as we dont have the same unfortunate experience Cat had in the Backwords Universe

OK Vic , thats one vote for Buddy L as the worst , now its starting to show a trend …

“Step up to red alert!”

“Sir, are you absolutely sure? It does mean changing the bulb.”

Ah, but who is wearing the Do-Nut hat and bowing towards fee-gee whilst praying to “cloister”?

Aristo Craft
Accucraft
AMS
Bachmann
Buddy L
Hartland
Lionel
MTH
USA trains

Who will be the underdog ?

Lemme see…?
Don’t own any Aristo so they can die off.
So can Buddy L and Lionel.
And MTH
If only Bachmann would improve their quality…
Never seen a Hartland, so I can’t judge them.
Can’t afford Accucraft, but their stuff really looks good, 'specially the locos.
I have two USA switcher engines…They run OK, but a little gear noisy.
So…unless USA makes a nice narrer gauge steam engine soon, and my LGB’s wear out and can’t be replaced…I guess I’ll take up 2 rail O and On3…

John, I presume you are writing, tongue in cheek,“Bachmann to improve their quality”, if being serious, you obviously do not have any Bachmann Spectrum locomotives or cars in 1:20.3 scale.

Danny,
My Tongue was partially in cheek… I haven’t seen the new rolling stock. It intrigues me. I may get some.

But having said that:,
Of all the Bachmann’s that I know of in our club, very few run. Most are used as bash fodder or shelf queens.
Lemme see…
2 members have 2 of the 4-4-0 Spectrums. One is dead.
2 Shays that I know of are running.— three dead.
Countless big haulers are dead, even one with a Barry’s Big Train drive.
There’s something wrong with one of the 2-8-0 Spectrum’s a member has.
I can remember 2 different Annies burning up on their maiden runs…
And so on…
Wouldn’t you be gun-shy as well?
jb

No, I’d talk to someone who knows said locomotives and ask them…

Haven’t seen but a couple not worth fixing.
I went through 10 4-4-0’s and 10 2-6-0’s last year, all in one shot, two total had bad motors, the rest had, as the worst failure, a broken wire.

Dave,
I should gather them all up and bring 'em over. Then I’d have a whole fleet of repaired locos.
But at what cost?..
Are they worth fixing?

Kryten.
Reminds me of the robot in “Hitch hiker’s Guide”.
Ooops. I just remembered his name:
“Marvin the Paranoid Android”. Dead serious. I didn’t make that up.

Marvin, the manicly depressed robot, one of my favorite characters in the HHGTTG

“Here I am brain the size of a planet and they ask me to pick up a piece of paper. You call that ‘job satisfaction’? cause I DONT!”

A: “Look robot the stars are coming out”
M: “I’ve seen it, its rubbish…”
A: " That sunset, two suns boiling into the horizon! we only had the one sun on Earth"
M: “I know, you keep going on about it, did it have oceans?”
A. “Oh yes, wide rolling oceans”
M: “Cant bear oceans…”
A: "tell me, do you get on well with other robots?
M: “Hate them”

Marvin even has his own music video:

John- No idea until I see them!
E-mail me with some specifics (“won’t run” isn’t specific enough…)

Thank you, Gentlemen, very entertaining.

I read the HHGTTG series not so long ago. Now I’m working up the courage and allotting the time to start on some of the Monthy Python “stuff”. Someone filled me in today on what I’m missing not having watched “Red Dwarf”, so I may give that a try, too.

Hopefully Fr. Fred will forgive me. It’s like anything else in life, never too late!

If it’s funny, I’m all for it.

If you like sci-fi and Brit humour, Red Dwarf is GOOD!

Kind of like the Dilbert cartoons…

Doctor Who is my all-time favourite.
I REALLLY used to like “Highway Patrol” in the old days…we’re talking '56 or '57…but that wasn’t sci-fi nor Brit.

Fun to watch '57 Ford patrol cars zip around.

WARNING!
Once you start in on Red Dwarf, you’re hooked!
Oh, and Tom Baker was the very best Doctor…

Opening episode, oh, those many years ago.
Technician Second Class Arnold J. Rimmer is complaining to the Senior Technician that Lister keeps calling him a “smeghead”, and wants to “put Lister on report!”.

The senior Technician turns to Rimmer and says, “But, Rimmer, you ARE a smeg-head!”.

Nothing to do with current events.

Re: The Bachmann Spectrums…

I have a first generation 36 ton two truck Shay that is still going strong without modification, and a Spectrum 4-4-0 that works like a champ! I also have an original Bachmann Big Hauler (the green Santa Fe R/C model from 1990 or so that still pulls it’s load, and two other Big Haulers that work very well.

I guess that I’m just lucky… None of my Bachmanns have died, yet.

'Wolf, just a matter of time.
A member where we had the meeting last week–his Spectrum 4-4-0 is a broken down shelf queen.
